I have a 08 211. I don't know anything about the SAN wake for a comparison. I ski and the wake is ok. My Malibu LSV had a better wake for skiing. I have a young family too and the 211 makes a good family boat with its space and versatility. It also is very comfortible for long cruises. The surf wake is ok. I took out the stock ballast and put in bags so I could remove them for storage when I want to. I have 1500 lbs and I have not been able to surf withou a rope. I have a suck gate too. Stiff playing with surf configuration.

Context...I have owned an '05 210 and '12 210 (and now a '17 G23). My parents own an '07 SV211. My brother owns a '16 Sport 200. [Yes, between us we currently own 3 Nautiques and have owned 5.] I don't ski, but a few in my family do.

Is the ski wake on a 211 really any better than say an 03 to 05 SAN 210? - YES. Much better.

What are your opinions of the 330 Excalibur? (I currently have the GT 40 which is very easy to work on) Is it worth saving for a newer SV211 with the 343? - Pretty sure all of the SV211s came with the Excalibur. It is suited well for that boat, and is a workhorse...I've had no problems with any of mine.

Can I get a surfable wave (no rope) with a SV211 with out a bunch of sacks laying on the seats? - Yes, but you will need to add weight. We've done it with only 400 lbs of additional ballast on the surf side, but more would be better. I have no experience with the suckgate, but I'm guessing it would help.

Is there more room for ballast in the lockers in the New SV211s verses the older ones? - Pretty sure the lockers are all the same. The port side is smaller due to the walk-through...can't fill a normal dimension 400 all the way.

Any downsides or known issues people have with the SV-211? Nope.

I even long-line barefooted behind my parent's boat SV211 last weekend. My brother skis 34 mph on it and my parents are 26-30 mph skiers. Sounds like it would be a perfect boat for you. The wakeboard wake isn't as good as an OG 210 and the slalom wake isn't as good as a direct drive, but it is a very workable compromise. It has served my parents very well.

I agree with everything OKWAKEBDR said.
I owned an SV211 for 11 years, it's the boat my kids grew up on and it was the perfect family boat. Add some ballast bags in the rear lockers and a suckgate and you'll have a great surf wave (I took out the hard tanks and put 750# bags in their place). Although you will need to add some weight to the bow to balance it, but I would put the bag under the center filler cushion so it was out of the way.
It did everything we needed it to do without every having a problem. Other than routine maintenance, which I did, it never went to the shop for anything. It skis adequately, it surfs great, the wakeboard wake can be really good and it's comfortable and easy to drive (especially for my wife, she did not like driving bigger boats like the G23)
The 330 and the 343 are the same engine except for a different tune and a different engine cover. Everything stayed the same on the boat except for a change to the height of the seat backs in '07.

I also agree with the guys above. I love my 2007 211. I am also running 1600 pounds and has a great surf wake with suck gate and a pretty good wakeboard wake as well. I have the 343 and it has been bulletproof, no experience with the 330. I am not a skier so I cannot comment on the skiability. Only problem I've had is that with full ballast and 5 people she's struggled to get on plane. I just opened the box to my new 1235 prop from acme to solve that problem. Other than that, I plane on owning this boat for awhile!

We've just started surfing ours and my daughter is dropping the line. I have 350 in each side plus a 375 we've been playing with locations on and a home made suck gate. Agree with the other posts, LOVE my 211, doesn't do anything well, does everything fine. If you want a family boat, this is it. If you are focused on wakes, find your speciality and go for another boat.

How hard is it to winterize? The direct drive is so easy. I don't really trust the dealers up here, I would rather do it myself. Glad to hear that some of you do that too and it doesn't have to be taken to the dealership. Do you winterize the ballast system as well?

It's no different than a direct drive...maybe not as easy to get to stuff, but it's not hard. I've never worried about the ballast...just make sure they're empty. (I don't live in an area that requires winterizing anymore, so it's been a while...but I used to live in Denver.)

I winterize mine myself. Does not take very long. The down size to a vdrive is climbing in the storage compartments to access to motor. After doing it a few times it gets easier to stuff yourself in there.

You'll never find a vdrive that is as easy to winterize as a direct drive. With that said, the 211 isn't that bad, the oil filter and the fcc unit are east to get to - after I removed the hard tanks and replaced them with bags, getting to everything else was made infinitely easier. However, the port side will always be tight simply because of the way the walk through is built.

Thanks a lot guys. I have my eye on a couple of prospects. It would be best to wait a couple more years, save and get a nicer one, but hard to be patient when you see a couple of nice ones for sale.

You should be able to find some pretty nice ones in the low $30s. I know there are quite a few advertised close to $40k, but that's too much IMO. I know what my parents paid for theirs 5 years ago.

With at least 1600 pounds in the 211 the wake is actually very nice for both surfing and boarding

Very happy 211 owner here in second season with it. Family friendly boat with the layout and huge swimdeck and kid friendly transom. We are coming from a Tristar so hard to compare. Just trying to start figuring out surfing this year. Board Wake is awesome especially for beginner to intermediate. If you were hard core you'd probably want more. I'd say I'm a recreational skier and it seems fine to me. Starts getting smaller around 27-8 maybe
