How much should I pay for 2000 Super Air Nautique?

Any chance you can wait a month and dig around? Might have to drive north a bit but September is almost here and some of the Northern states will start to have sales. People don't want to winterize and store the boat just to sell in spring. Not sure if the Florida market does this but I've see it in NC. Lots of boats start showing up in the fall from that area Where I'm at ski boats are somewhat rarer and I had to go to Phoenix to find a Nautique.

Id take it for 13k and ride the **** out of it until summer breaks then save some cash for some aftermarket skins and perfect pass and ballast.

I bought my 2000 in April for I think 22k. Found it here. It was in great shape with a really nice, couple year old, trailer. Boat had 300 or a little less hours on it. It still had the original gauges but had a new set of gauges and a stargazer new in the box waiting.

I disagree with the crowd. $13k is a pretty darn good deal. Does it need work...yes. Will most 2000's need some...also, yes. Any boat that is 14 years old is eventually going to need some work. Buy the boat and make some incremental upgrades. Maybe ballast and perfect pass this year. Maybe new skins a year or two after. The nice thing is you will be on the water enjoying everything that boat can do. If somebody has an issue with a few tears in the vinyl, I guess then don't need to come on the boat again. My '99 SN was in the exact same condition. I guarantee I will sell the boat for more than I bought it for, and will have had five years of great times on it. -Marc

If you are OK with the condition/mechanicals I would most likely buy it for $13K as well. The boat is rough but you seem to acknowledge and accept that. For the money I don't think you can get much better. If you are somewhat handy and can put the time in you could have a decent boat at the end of the day. I wouldn't buy this if you don't like getting your hands dirty though.

Yep I think that is not a bad deal either. My biggest concern would be making sure it was mechanically sound. Check the bilge under the motor, is there oil pooled there? My interior looks worse than that right now and im kind of dreading getting it fixed because then im going to be worried about my new interior all the time!! My 2001 SAN is very easy to drive without perfect pass.

I bought my old 99 Air (with gen 2 FCT) for $13k circa 2008-2009. It had about 4 seats that needed to be redone. I replaced the entire vinyl interior with Christines Nautiqueskins (did the install myself), added Fresh Air Exhaust, and added a custom ballast system with ballast puppies, 2x 400lbs fat sacs in the rear, a seat sac in the belly, and a bow A sac in the bow, and added flight clips. I also replaced all 4 trailer tires and one trailer axle. Boat did have PP (rpm only) when I bought it. Sold it 3 years later for $18,700. I probably lost a little bit when you add the cost of all that up (and certainly when one values my time), but the boat was pristine when I sold it, and I got good use out of it for 3 years. The most important thing was that the boat ran perfectly. Over the 3 years I had it, it stalled once and then immediately restarted without issue. I never had another issue with the boat. My point is, there are upgrades and niceties you can choose to fix if you want to, and if you buy it for the right price, you won't lose... if the motor, tranny (and in this case v-drive) are in great shape.

Note, my 99 Air was Blue, black and white, with blue medium and light gray interior. Desirable color scheme.

So I spoke with the Nautique service tech. a few hours ago. The compression checked out @ 150, 151, 151, 150, 152, 151, 150, 151
He said the tranny needed flushing, needed some new fluid for the v-drive, and the oil needed changing. Otherwise the engine looked in top condition.
The ballast fill/empty buttons do not work, but I assume you can let the tanks manually fill and them drain them at the end of the day. (at least until I decide to upgrade the whole ballast system)
One thing that kinda threw me off guard was that the oil pressure read extremely high....he said that it had to be a faulty relay, because the engine was in top condition.

I have used some of the negative feedback from the dealer in negotiating the price with the seller. I currently have him at $13,000. He says no-way to $12,000.

There might be too much oil in the engine. Also, the pressure will read high when the engine is cold and the oil is thick. How high is the reading? Is the needle buried?

He just said the pressure was maxed out on the gauge, therefore he didn't truly believe it with the engine checking out with great compression. He thought it had to be a faulty relay.

I want to chime in!!! My $0.02. Buy it... $13K is not a spectacular deal but not a horrible deal for the shape it is in. You throw $6-7K (Money goes fast and I think it would take a bit more than $5K) Do the work your self and save some $$$. When you have the boat to the way you want it, you will have a nice clean boat and you did the work. You will be proud of your work and take care of it. Also, when you get this boat, make a build thread and keep us all posted on your progress. One more thought, I agree with SWC5150... he probably said no to $12k verbally... but has he said no to $12K in hundo's flayling in front of him??? Try taking cash... you may be pulling it home for $1K less than his lowest price.

When I sold my '07, the buyer handed me 2 bags of $100 bills, a couple grand less than my lowest price. I could not say no to greenbacks in hand, and I doubt this seller would either. It's labor day weekend already, nearing the end of boating season for a lot of buyers. You can always walk and pick it up a day or two later for $13k?

For what it is worth, that boat came from Maryland (I can tell by the registration). 95% of the water in Maryland is either brackish or saltwater. There are very few inland lakes.

That interior looks harsh. Poor boat looks like it was used hard and put away wet (no pun intended).

I will say this, I used both of my Nautiques in the brackish water of Maryland. I did wipe down after each use, but did not worry too much about the water in the engine or ballast. I always made sure to flush it well at the end of the season and then drain everything.
