I have experience with the Malibu dealer the OP described. They are VERY aggressive, and will do just about anything to sell you a Mailbu!

Buddy just got a MB bc his favorite dealer dumped bu. told him he didn't like the way they do business. We 3 event skied with Englebrecht years back, Malibu rep at the time, and he was never like that. Like the saying goes, nice guys finish last and some really take that to the next level!

Malibu isn't the same company after 2009. Venture capitalists took over, CEO and senior VPs run rough shop. Quality and customer service have taken a nose dive and there is a HUGE variance in just about everything about Malibu.2019 G23 450

I know there are a lot of posts here, but I have to chime in. I've had my G23 for a year now and have also owned Malibu and two other 210 Nautiques.
Questions:
1) Sucking pockets dry? The boat likes petrol, but no more than any other boat in this size, class and HP.
2) Too big a wake? An empty G23 has a good size wake when empty, but certainly NOT too big to learn. I've had 7yr olds wakeboarding for the first time and they did not have a problem navigating the stock, empty boat, wake. My 10yr old LOVES the wake without having to add ballast - which therefore improves MPG.
3) Cutting throttle and get wet? I've never had water in the stern from stopping quickly. However, stopping any boat fast is poor boat handling. Always slow a boat down slowly.
4) Getting wet? Yes, spray will get into the boat if there are white caps on the lake and you are heading into them at just the right angle. The cure to this is to curve the boat slightly and the spray stops.
The G23 is hard to beat. You will not regret it if you go that route. I like it 10 times better than my 210's. Best of luck!Steve
