Open up flight clips to hold surf board

Got a SV211 with flight clips and the clips are too narrow to hold my new board (IS Swallow V2). Has anybody ever tried to bend the flight clips to accept the thicker board? I only need about 1/2" more room.

Lastly, can somebody recommend an aftermarket rack that can mount under the flight clip rack to hold the board?

    Thanks, Mitch

Yes this can be done. My buddy Wakeskier did it and it works well. I think he used a 2x4 to open them up.

I am not sure if they will work as well with the 211 tower but I have been happy with Krypt Tower board racks. The clamps rotate so that you can get the racks flat on an angled tower leg. They fit well on the NDT and the 210 FCT.

Yup, just pt a 2x4 in the flight clip and twisted until it opened up enough to fit the surf board.
I only did the upper rack on the clip since I only needed to fit one thick board.. plus the upper rack was easier to bend out.

Funny, mine were a bit "pre bent" by the PO, where it looked like he had run them into a dock piling or something. But one side fits my surfboard fine. I keep the board in the same spot, because it has stretched out the rope/bungee on that side a bit and now they don't hold a board tight enough.

Has anybody re-adjusted these? can you tighten up the cords on the flight clips? I need to either do that, or drop some coin on nicer racks.

          You can get new bungees:

Thanks guys, will give the flight rack a little bend.

I replaced my bungees to start this season. I got all new bungee material and new clips and balls. The old bungee clips can be re-used to shorten the bungee if you cut it off and put it over a slightly open vice and tap the center section out with a drift or a punch. It only comes out one way so be careful you don't break it. I was surprised my local dealership had all the parts I needed, and I would recommend if you are going to all the trouble, might as well replace the bungees. Plus you can make custom length bungees 1-1/2 ft for the wakeboards and a little longer for a surf board.
