      My experience with the gate allows the hull of the boat to ride deeper in the water with the gate up which in turn creates a larger wake and with it in the down position "cruise or slalom" position, the hull rides substantially higher in the water. The wake is definitely "flatter" when the gate is down creating more hook or lift in the rear of the hull.
