As previously mentioned it's realy about torque and getting the engine to make power in the desired ranges. The prop and transfer case ratio probably effect that more so than displacement and overall HP of a motor. If you do slalom skiing or higer MPH activities the larger motor would be beneficial as the HP helps the boat maintain velocity with less effort

    Just my $.02
do you have stock prop? Thanks for the feedback

I do have friends that have had the Malibu Indmar 6.2 (400hp) hammerhead motor and moved back the 5.7 (340hp) Monsoon when they bought their next boat due to extra vibration, noise, and mechanical issues.
      Thanks

I have a 2009 230 SANTE with the 343. I regularly have full tank and have 8 people on board. No problems at all with the 343! I do have the power prop though. Last week at PWT I had 10 guys 3 coolers, stock ballast, full tanks and two 540 sacks for surfing, 10 overnight bags and still did good. Maybe could have used a few more ponies but for the 10 days a year I would run like this, its perfectly fine. Others on board that drove have been on heavily loaded X45s and Xstars with the LY6 and L18 and they could not tell much difference. 343 is in no way under powered IMHO.
