I have a new Nautique with the factory cover that has the ratchet straps in the back. Just curious if anyone has experience towing on the highway with this cover on? I don't want to damage the cover or boat but would like to be able to tow with it on for longer trips.

Buy a Coversports cover so you can tow without damage. It's too bad we didn't get the info to you before you bought your factory cover.'08 196LE (previous)

Not sure if it the same type, exactly, but I was warned against towing with a cover with straps because they end up abrading the finish on the gel coat, etc.
So, I got a Rankin strapless cover afew years back...I am not sure if Rankin is still around or not, though.2010 Super Air Nautique 210 Team Edition

I would think sustained wind/towing is tough on any fabric however if it is a good quality cover and snug all around, with tie downs if necessary, it should be fine if you want to do it. Personally only use the cover if towing in rain, otherwise leave it off.

The cover he is talking about does not have tie down straps. I have had them on my 2010 and 2011 200s. Quite similar to the Rankin cover. I have towed with mine on and had zero scratches or issues. It looks like the vents on the top actually suck the cover to the boat. No flapping around at all. Only have done it in the rain. Even it did scratch a little (which it hasn't), it is easier for me to buff out a couple scratches than get mildew and wet road muck out of the boat.Promo Team member

I agree with Clemson Dave. I too have a factory cover with a ratchet system and the cover fits properly and tows with out any problems. That is what the cover is made for. I have used this cover for 2 years now and no complaints no scratches, nicks or any damage from the cover at all.

I know Eddie Beverly tows his Byerly with the Nautique cover on, and I know he has the poles in place too. He's logged MANY miles and I am sure he wouldn't do that if it caused damage.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. The new cover comes with the poles and straps. A bit of a pain, but worth it for a nice tight fit. Yes, I use the poles when towing with cover. Again, only if raining. Actually, I use it if it's dusty too.Promo Team member
