Converting a 196 to ZO

I have a 2006 196 SE with DBW, . excal engine, 120 hours....

I have seen a number of comments in various threads about converting pre-zero off 196's to ZO and would like to understand more. Many of the comments are by "Teamseal" who looks to be tied www.floridainboards.com and I have read the info on that site.

I would like any comments on the conversions. Has anyone converted ? Any problems/concerns ? It sounds like the engine electronics have to be changed - do you then end up with an engine that Correct Craft does not "support" ? - I have not seen conversions on Correct Craft dealer sites.

I ran BOTH PP and ZO at the same time in my 2007 236. I had to swap out the ECU. There may be more to it for an SE 196. Not sure. Check with Jody or give White Lake a call. Here are some shots of my installation in the 236.

ZO conversion

I have a 2007 206 and installed a Zero Off. I had to send my ECM in to get it re-flashed. I think that was around $50 or $75. I am not sure if you can do it on an '06 or not. I have been very happy with the ZO, I've had no problems and it is really easy to use. I have had a few complaints from skiiers used to Perfect Pass that claim the pull is different, but personally I can't tell the difference.

On a 2006 and older, you will for sure have to replace the ECU. You MUST have an eControls ECU in order to use Zero Off. CC did not use that ECU until 2007.

The 2006 SE is the easiest to convert and will be the less as far as cost. Keep in mind the ZO Parts and pieces will run with shipping close to $1,600.00. www.zerogps.com . As the hard parts needed to have E-control a complete engine wire harness and
E-control ECM will need to be replaced along with a few other small parts and pieces. It is a pretty straight forward conversion. The limited boats are a bit more involved and will up the overall cost as the Gateway modules must be replaced.
their are some re-coup $$ perks when converting, the MEFI 4 pull off controller is worth $200-$350 on E-bay and if you have a pull out Perfect Pass they can bring a few $$$ also on E-bay.

They have this conversion down to a science. Their kit includes very bolt needed.

While I have purchased from Tim White before and he seems to be a good guy, why not purchase your ZO conversion from one of our own active members here, Jody Seal? He was the first to perform and perfect the ZO conversion, worked for Correct Craft, has contacts with PCM, and can put together a complete package.

Shane and Clemson Dave are right. Jody Seal has been with the factory for many years. He knows the boats inside and out and what it takes to do a conversion. If you want it done right give Jody a call You won't t be sorry he does great work.

I'm not trying to tell someone where to send their money. I was SIMPLEY giving an option I had found. I've email/talked with Jody (on his 200 before I went in a different direction) and I spoken with Tim, seems I give him luck selling his Nautiques) both good guys. I have nothing against Jody, actually didn't know he did this type stuff. Maybe Tim is a member on the site too. Not sure.

As for supporting people, agree. I support all the people that donate to this site and have a banner above. I've owned 1 or 2 Nautiques. Just ordered a "crap" load of stuff from White Lake (2) Impellers, (2) fuel filters, (2) inline filters, Spare belt, coolie cups, etc and actually on the PCM items they were higher even with the discount. Still ordered from them. Changing to Ski Safe one boat changed and the other will be on June 1.
