Really, CC has wasted R&D funds on this? This reminds me of when Homer Simpson designed a car for his 1/2 brother. BTW, it was a total disaster, too. Also, why would one put new technology in a old boat. Why isn't this in the 200 or the 176 (which makes more sense)?

As discussed before, hybrid cars have ways to regenerate power. Also, as fuel prices go up, so do electric prices at your home. Plus I'm sure everyone has a 220 power line at their dock (you know, near water). There is a natural gas commericial on TV about electricity and water not getting along very well.

Sorry for the bashing, but a $35k new ski boat would have been a better anouncement.

Because the 196 is the ultimate ski boat. Uh oh, let the lashings begin!

But seriously, probably because of its size/drag. I agree that the old electric bill could potentially offset any fuel cost savings. Unless we a nuke plant in each state, electricity will not get any cheaper either. Of course, we could always drill for oil in our own country? Or does that make too much sense for the politicians?

I think it's cool and probably the future for private ski lakes.

BUT, why did they overlay the video with all that thumping music? For me, it would have been awesome to hear the actual noise when running from inside the boat. Just seems like they were covering up a huge aspect of the boat just to stay with the formula of music through the video.

                Thoughts and questions...

Keeping my word on this, I was only partially correct on one of my theories. I thought for sure a hybrid. I'd received an accidental 'reply all' mail that alluded heavily to it, but again I was somewhat reading tea leaves. I absolutely thought there were too many winks for it not to be a hybrid. 100% electric - not a single clue that's what it would be. My second guess is technically correct, but in the context of this I was wrong because that second guess is way off in terms of an announcement.

I did have a third, I didn't mention it... I've actually said it on here before. I got to sit with Correct Craft's chief designer Steve Carleton and told him about the colored deck issue. They're very well aware. He told me some specifics about why it couldn't happen, but then I saw some of that get totally flipped when the Byerly 210 came out. I figured, ok - problems solved huh, colored decks for all lines coming soon." Not sure where that stands now. But it didn't fit with "big announcement" terminology that Bill used. Of course everyone on here would be like f yeah! But sadly I think the population that cares that much about that option is more limited than you think. Personally I still think they should do it - Malibu has absolutely worked around the issues Steve mentioned. So I just skipped that.

So, some points about this Nautique E. Statements and Questions mixed:

                - Big surprise, definitely would have expected hybrid 10x over all electric, and in fact I don't understand how that even works. Lots more to this than meets the eye. I'm confused, but it IS a big deal and doesn't fall flat.

                - Award worthy engineering. They'll get some wide industry recognition from this.

                - Based on the pics, call me crazy, but is that a v-drive of some kind? Can't understand how they have that setup, engines near the v-drive on current boats. I got some late-hour news about this that indicated a flat floor, no engine hump. I see they raised the floor way up toward the stern, I just expected it to be completely flat.

                - I wouldn't get your hopes up that this is the reintroduction of the 196. I think they took a warranty lemoned or old team boat and used it as a test bed. Looks like an 08 196.

                - Do you guys think it's going to need 220 to charge?

                - Any ideas on weight? My guess is that CC engineering would insist it not be heavier than a 196 with a standard powerplant.

                - They absolutely need to work on the charging/running ratio. If the statements in this thread are right.

                - My guess is that this is a 2015 option for the Ski Nautique 200 and the smaller crossovers - perhaps 20-30 of each, at a very high price. No other way to pay for that R&D - early adopters needed. Kinks to be worked out. This won't be (and probably isn't) the only hull they're trying this with.

                - Someone said a MasterCraft prototype kicked this off? By Correct Craft? Wha? If you have that on good word, any idea why? That's very strange. I'm not sold, but that's because I can't imagine why they'd do that. Not trying to discredit the person who said it. Just doesn't make sense.

                - Anyone think there will be a failover, perhaps a trolling motor? Not an oar. If it requires 220 at the dock (eeeek), there will need to be some kind of backup, I mean who has 220 at the dock? Maybe it has (or will) have a very smart "limp home" feature

                - It's big enough of an announcement for the language used in the run-up, despite being a proof of concept and not a product announcement at this time.

                    future of private ski lakes?

Not. We cannot even afford the 200. It would also have to have a minimum of 30 sets of life in the engine. We are light years from seeing a product that will work for ski clubs and tourneys.

                      Cool !

I think thats great news! It will still take a few years to come to production or at least be practical for my use.
The electric cars are much better then they use to be and the prices on them have come down.

My course is on a public lake and noise has always been a factor. It would be awesome to run that boat past the cottages early in the morn and not worry about waking anyone up!
Also to be able to cruise around the lake without turning up my stereo really loud to drown out the sound of the engine.
Its cool to see that the first Electric Tournament boat may be a Nautique!!!

                            next step: magnetohydrodynamic!

Ok, humor's over. For those taking this word for word, this is a TEST BOAT! No reason to take the latest /greatest and use it because it will be obsolete as well by the time the next stage arrives. I'm pretty sure they know the limitations and are working to remedy them. Also, the major hurdle with anything 'electric' is simply energy storage, aka batteries. As CC develops the boat around it, battery technology is improving by leaps and bounds.

That being said, 220 to a dock is a scary thought. As for 110, I've known too many docks with lights and outlets for radioes. But regulations and hopefully CC conscience will drive this to be done as safely as can be. Not to mention, what do you do when you 'visit' a dock, or an off the beaten path lake? A lot of obstacles, and a lot of the solutions are being developed for cars. How many have a gas pump at your dock anyway? The battery life will have to match the gas engine's (8 hours on a charge?) before it becomes practical (which is the major hurdle with cars too).

In summary, please keep in mind this is a work in progress.

From my vantage point, it is a big deal. It's a first of its kind. No it isn't something more tangible *right now*, but writing this off, well I guess I just don't understand why one would do that. If you're serious.
