Dealership Map

I’m sure there’s a lot more involved with opening a dealership than meets the eye. Just like any other business you can’t just open up a dealership anywhere there’s a gap and expect it to do well. You would have to have a solid business plan before even considering it. Assuming a market could sustain a dealership you would have to find someone willing to take the risk and invest a huge amount of capital. Then I’m sure CC would have to approve it.

Personally I don’t know how dealers manage it, but more power to them. Think about it…their prime season is when the rest of us are out on the water enjoying our boats. Instead of being out there with us they are dealing with the numerous issues involved with running a business and spending countless hours away from the water.

In regards to Iowa not having a dealership, I’m not sure Iowa could sustain a Nautique dealership. If they could I would imagine it would be farther to the left of Abun’s blue area up by Okoboji. Currently Iowa is pretty much a MC area with a few Bu’s sprinkled in. We have 2 MC dealers and one Bu dealer. But we’re easily within driving range of several other dealers. (2-4 hours)

AbunDiga, 2 dealerships to service LA to San Diego is too many? Any one know the population of the Southern Calif. Area? Which Dealership sells the most boats? Capitolism could to be at work here.

darell, I don't know populations or anything. I just did that quickly based just on how close each red square was to the next one. Maybe that area needs two dealerships, but I'm sure CO could use one. I don't know Nor Cal that much either, but it sure looks like they have more than they need and need to spread the wealth.

Interesting map. What is intriguing is how fluid it has been over the years. I'm in KC (on the Kansas side) and have had a Nautique for 12 years. We have gone from having the closest dealer 3hrs away (Wichita) to 5 hrs (Dodge City) to 30 mins (Grandview) to 25 mins (Blue Springs) as the dealerships have come and gone. I know some dealers have been around a long time, but in our area I go to the boat show each year to see who is still here and who has which brand this year. Our current CC dealer is making a good go of it, and hopefully will be around for a long time.

1) Thanks! No, CC didn't pay me for it or anything. I just wanted to see how the dealerships were placed throughout the country.

This map was created back in 2004, and even if it was still available, it would be totally inaccurate now.
