  • starter solenoid click gt40

Last year replaced both the starter and starter solenoid. Today got the same click. The starter solenoid was replaced at dealer because it looked to be in a pita place. Can anyone tell me how hard it is to replace this... I am 99 percent sure it will be going total bad so.

Boat is super sport v drive with gt40. One battery. Mostly all stock.

Should I get an emergency by pass so I do not get stuck?

Are you talking about the solenoid on the actual starter or the one mounted under the computer? Mine has a solenoid under the computer that shoots power over to the starter solenoid.

Neither one is to bad to replace. On mine you have to remove the sectional thingy to remove the actual starter and change the solenoid. The orther one under the computer isnt to bad, it is a pain to get to. Pull out the backseat to see that one, its tucked under the ecm

Thanks for the info. I am 99 percent sure it is the one under the computer. Because, works great first few time. And after it get used (6 or 7 start) (heat in motor bay)a little it starts to act up. Also I hear the click coming from up high in the middle of the back seat.
The only thing on the system that is not new is the safety switch on the trans, and it it possible that that could be the issue. I have never messed with that, and I do not know if that would cause a "ford clicking relay" or not.

      Thanks for the help.

How hard is removing the rear seat back?

I would be 100% sure that the battery is good (not a deep cycle, holding full charge) and the cables were in good condition, clean and tight on both ends before proceeding with solenoid replacement.

          Thanks,
A week ago i went down to my boat after letting it sit for 4 or 5 days and she was near dead (ran the blower for 2 mins and I think it was the low battery issue). I am going to get a new battery and clean the contacts. I know that the battery is a least 4 years old (and not the best), so since i know that the Relay requires a good strong power.
I think the battery could be at the End of its life so I think it might be worth the try.
I will report back after a week or so.

I do need to replace the relay.
could someone that is done this in the past give me the run down of what i will need to do to remove the rear seat to do this.
I can see the top under side of the relay from the top. and i can feel both mounting bolts top and bottom.
Any advice on how to remove this would be GREAT... also, if anyone had moved it to a "BETTER" place...

            thanks.
