This has been a great year for PlanetNautique. In January, we launched the new version of this website, and it has been incredibly successful. It is much more stable, vastly more secure, and i think it looks a lot cooler! We completed our site integration with Facebook, set up iPhone integration, and continued our tradition of providing interviews with interesting Correct Craft representatives. Oh yeah, and our software vendor, vBulletin, is still in business and constantly offering updates and security releases for their software, unlike the people behind our old site software.

Over the next couple of days, I will be installing another version update to the PlanetNautique site software. This is the first major release to be added since January (the rest have been small feature updates and security patches). I am sure you'll all like the new features.

Also, our iPhone app will be getting an update very soon. We're switching iPhone app providers (mostly because our software vendor is releasing a native iPhone app for their software) very soon. More information will be available about that within the next month or so.

I am working this week on the 2011 PlanetNautique calendar, which will make its triumphant return to the PlanetNautique store after being conspicuously absent last year. It looks like the calendar is going to be outstanding this year. Be sure to check it out when it is available. Thanks to everyone who submitted pictures.

I also want to write a little bit about White Lake Marine. They have been an exceptional site sponsor this year, providing us with use of the PlanetNautique / White Lake Marine Super Air Nautique 210 Team Edition all summer. Lots of PlanetNautique members got the chance to ride in and behind it over the past nine months. Some people even got to ride with Shaun Murray behind the PN/WLM boat at White Lake. It doesn't get much better than that! White Lake continues to offer our members a great discount on their products, and they are known world-wide for their extensive knowledge and expertise when it comes to Nautiques. If you need parts or accessories (or even a boat), give them a call! We look forward to another great year with White Lake as our main sponsor in 2011!

We have a few exciting events for 2011 in the planning phase. Look for information about those soon! Thank you for being a member of PlanetNautique! I hope you enjoy this site as much as i enjoy maintaing it.

Last night, I installed the latest upgrade to vBulletin's software. This upgrade fixes over 300 reported bugs.

With this latest software upgrade, PlanetNautique will feature single sign-on integration with Facebook Connect. What this means is that users will be able to connect their PlanetNautique account with their Facebook account, and then log-in using the Facebook Connect button. It also provides the option of simplifying the registration process, so that users can register on PlanetNautique by simply logging in through Facebook Connect.

Going forward, I have many plans for expanding the capabilities of the Facebook Connect feature set. However, for now I have decided to keep it simple and only implement this basic functionality. In addition to adding more Facebook Connect features, I will also be implementing additional log-in integrations such as OpenID, Google, Yahoo, etc. The current implementation of FBConnect provides a framework for moving forward on these plans.

There are lots of additional features coming soon to PlanetNautique. Stay tuned for more information!

PlanetNautique has had long-standing relationships with several of our site sponsors over the years. Today I want to write a little bit about the relationship that PlanetNautique and White Lake Marine share.

I have been making purchases from White Lake Marine since 2000, when they sold me my very first boat, a 1994 Ski Nautique. When PlanetNautique was created, they were one of the first dealers to sign on as a site sponsor. As time went on and they started selling parts and accessories via the web, our relationship continued to grow. They began offering our members a discount on parts and accessories through their PlanetNautique Discount Code (PND, if you're interested). White lake has kept their prices very reasonable, not only on the big-ticket items, but also on smaller parts and accessories. Our members have rewarded White Lake's support of this site and their willingness to sell parts and accessories at reasonable prices with lots of purchases.

Since the relationship between White Lake Marine and PlanetNautique has been working out so well, we have stepped it up a notch this year. In addition to their normal ad at the top of PlanetNautique, we're also featuring a NautiqueParts.com banner ad in the forums section. I have also set up two special sections of the website where White Lake's boats are listed for sale. On top of that, we have created the PlanetNautique / White Lake Marine Super Air Nautique 210 Team Edition. This boat will become the official boat of PlanetNautique for this year. It features the latest options for 2010, including the Nautique LINC system, PCM Excalibur engine with the CATANIUM CES option, FCT3 Tower, Tower Biminis bimini top, and lots more. The boat also features custom PlanetNautique, White Lake Marine, and NautiqueParts.com graphics.

This boat will be housed in Virginia, and will be traveling around the east coast this summer. If you're interested in spending some time behind the wheel or getting a pull behind it, let me know and we might be able to set that up. This boat is also available for sale, so if you are considering a purchase this year, contact me for more information on this boat.

White Lake Marine is the oldest Correct Craft dealership in the world. That doesn't happen by accident. They must be doing something right at White Lake. If you're in the area, stop by and find out for yourself. They're having an on-water boat show this coming Saturday, March 27 from 10AM - 3PM, showcasing the 2010 Nautiques. They'll have refreshments and a chance for you to get behind the wheel of the industry's #1 ski and wakeboard boats. Should be a great time!

Last night, I updated PlanetNautique to version 4.02 of vBulletin's Publishing Suite. This upgrade was meant to fix a number of bugs that were reported in the previous release of their software. Overall, the upgrade went well. Some of the colors were modified during the upgrade, and I have been working to get them back to normal. I believe I have most of that corrected at this point.

One of the main things that this new version of the software was meant to address is the formatting issues that affected people still using Internet Explorer version 6. I believe the site's front page should now appear correctly in this version of IE. It should be noted, however, that if you're still using IE version 6, you are using a very old version of Internet Explorer (it was released in 2001, to be exact), and you should update to the latest version of IE for MANY reasons, not just so that you can view PN more easily.

Several people have mentioned that they would like to see a new version of the PlanetNautique Users' Map installed on this site. For those of you who are new or do not remember the old PN map, it was a way to plot the location of our members on a map, so that everyone could quickly view other members' locations. If you're interested in seeing this feature added to the new site, please post in this thread.

Finally, I would like to again mention the great deals that our site sponsors are providing to everyone here at PlanetNautique. These sponsors are all great, and they work hard to support this site. Please remember to support them by purchasing from them when you can. I would like to particularly mention White Lake Marine, who has really stepped up this year to support this site. There will be more about their contribution to PlanetNautique in a future blog.

Enjoy the site, and feel free to drop me a line with any site suggestions or thoughts.

Here are a couple of reminders:

Private Messages: If you are having trouble receiving PM's on this site, please check to make sure you are not over your limit of stored messages. THIS INCLUDES YOUR SENT BOX. If you are storing more messages than the site allows, you will not be able to send or receive PM's.

Internet Explorer Version 6: If you use IE6, the formatting of the main page may not be working properly. This is a known issue with vBulletin 4. They are releasing a fix for this issue the week of February 15, and I will install it as soon as it is released.

If possible, you should upgrade your version of IE to the latest version. If this is not a possibility, just wait until the fix has been installed and everything should be formatted properly.

Fixed an issue that was reported yesterday with regard to Private Messages. All imported user accounts were set to NOT allow PM's to be sent. A simple database fix corrected that issue.
Still working on the hundreds of press releases that need to be manually moved over from the old site. Those are pretty time-consuming. At least they're not difficult to move.

Well, after about 36 hours of sitting at my desk working on PN, I finally have the new site stable. This is the first major update to PlanetNautique since 2002, when I revamped the ORIGINAL PlanetNautique site. That site was a mismatched grouping of CMS and forums software that didn't allow for integrated users, and was quite difficult to use. I was able to modify that original site into what we have all been using for the past EIGHT YEARS, and I think it has served us pretty well, especially considering how it came to be.

This new site is run completely on vBulletin software. Their newly-released Publishing Suite allows us to easily do what I had modified our original software to do, but with added security, and a TON of new features. I will be implementing some new features very soon. For righ now, I just wanted to get the site online ASAP, so that our total downtime was kept to a minimum.

The forums should be fully-functional, and I wanted to open the new site up to you guys as soon as possible so that you could start using it again. Sorry the forums section of the old site had to be down for the past two days, but I didn't want any new posts over there that wouldn't transfer to the new site.

I am still working on some of the colors and the layout of a few things, and the front page is not yet complete. There is still quite a bit of content for the front page that isn't loaded yet (older press releases, recalls, etc.), but I hope to have those things added over the next couple of days.

Keep checking back for new updates!

Thanks,
