  • zr6 impellar

Just had new impellar put in the boat and took it out for the weekend. I got about one hr on it and the engine started running hot. I pulled the impellar to find a groove cut out in the center of the impellar on every blade and wear about 1/4 in on each side of the groove. Installed my old impellar and got back to the house with the boat running perfect again. The wear looks like the indention of the out side of the impellar housing. So the impellar was the problem but any idea of why the impellar would go out so soon. Boat only started in water the valve is fully open the stariner is clean. Any ideas would help out.
    Thanks

Yes i am using OEM parts. I talked to a couple of other people and they think it might be a hose loose allowing it to suck air into tthe system. I plan to go to my storage unit and check this tomorrow.

          RE: zr6 impellar

          Check all OEM parts.
I had a new impeller replaced by an OEM piece last year for my 2003 SAN.
Checked out that the mounting hole had double the permitted tolarance on the axis.
          Giving a rattle sound iddling.

Air leaks at the suction side of the pump can casue a lot of trouble, airleak means no water pulled in at iddling.
Check, hose clamps, cut hoses in the clamp area, for sure aged boats and also strainer air leaks.

Had a major air leak on the inline trans oil cooler, causing above symptom, only when iddling.
