tachometer died on 93 ski nautique

My tach is not working anymore on my 93 nautique. It is a VDO gauge. White face with a black bezel. Is there anything I should check first, or should I just get a new one? If so, what is the exact replacement part?

You can pull the dash off and check the connection on the back of the guage to make sure all of that is working. If I am not mistaken, it is pretty hard to come across the VDO guage anymore.
