Out of an abundance of caution I called West Coast Correct craft to make sure there were no torque specifications on replacing my knock sensor on the Excalibur motor. The guy I spoke with told me to be sure I torqued it back down to 15lbs or it may not work correctly. He said they got a whole bunch of 2003's in from the factory witth the sensor just hand tightened. Every single one of them put the motor into safe mode. When they torqued them down to 15 pounds all troubled went away.

Just a word to the wise to people that are still draining their blocks this spring.

very good info sgy. i'm sure that is going to give a bunch of people nightmares.

does it have a wire lead? ie will you have to cut a socket to use a torque wrench?

The wire pops on and off of there with the pinch of a clip so you can use a normal 7/8 socket on it.

Took a look at my block yesterday. Noticed a little yellow instruction sheet tagged to the knock sensor wire. It dutifully explained that the knock sensor must not be dropped and must be torqued to 16lbs. And here I thought I was some genius for finding this information out.

Skinautique, explain to me how the wire comes off. I'm a little slow--and don't want to cause a malfunction.

When the wire is attached to the knock sensor, you just pinch the clip on there and it will pop off of the knock sensor so you can pull it to drain it.

Knock sensors will pick up other noises, lifters, rockers, rods, lean, timing etc.
