Due to the overwhelming success of the last group buy, Rankin has expressed interest in doing another round. Due to the busy boat show season, I did not foresee this happening- but now everyone who missed out on the first buy has a second chance!
Anyone with a Rankin cover (especially those who participated in the last group buy), feel free to add comments. These covers are terrific!
The logistics will basically work the same as last time. Many questions were asked and answered in the First Round Thread (http://planetnautique.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=7179). All info is below:
Background info:
Rankin offers top of the line Sunbrella covers that are truly trailerable. Their workmanship is top notch. The covers use a drawstring that tightens with a ratchet system and attaches firmly to the rub rail, so no snaps are necessary. The covers fit so well that no support poles are needed to shed water.
This group buy is applicable to any boat for which Rankin has a template. They claim that they have all Correct Craft templates dating back to 1989. The 1989 templates may or may not work on older boats.
See Rankin’s website for more information: http://www.rankincovers.com/
Pricing Information:
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e260/TRBenj/rankinpricing2.jpg
Other Details:
All Boats with Towers will require certain measurements to ensure an accurate cover. Descriptions of the measurements you need to take will be available on the order form that I send you.
No cleat or gas filler doors will be offered on the covers. Rankin has offered to send a small amount of extra fabric (for a small charge) to those who would like to have these options added locally.
Colors:
All of Rankin’s standard colors are eligible for this group deal.
Note: Red fabric is now an upcharge of $50
The full color list is as follows:
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e260/TRBenj/Rankincolors.jpg
*For better legibility on the names of the colors, see Rankin's website: http://www.rankincovers.com/product-info.htm
Shipping:
Shipping charges will be the actual shipping cost from their facilities in Oregon. Shipping in the continental U.S. should range from approximately $15-$30.
Warranty:
Rankin’s standard warranty still applies. This warranty will cover the Sunbrella material for 5 years from the date of purchase. There is a lifetime warranty (for the original purchaser) on the workmanship of the cover.
How to Order:
Send me an email with Rankin in the title: TRBenj@gmail.com. I will send you an order form. Fill it out and send it back to me. When I have collected enough orders, I will submit them to Rankin.
Payment:
Once I submit the orders, Rankin will take your payment directly. They take Mastercard and Visa. They can be reached at (425) 483-9266 from 7am - 4pm Pacific Standard Time. Be sure to mention my name and this group buy.
I do not have a date when we will stop accepting orders for this group buy, but I will update this post when I do. I expect to start submitting orders in groups so that they may start production.
Thank you for your interest!

I purchased a cover in the last group buy - I put in on the boat this week and trailed the boat home 100 miles on the highway, the cover never moved. This is a great deal, I'd encourage any PN member to purchase a cover in the next group buy!

You might look at the first post in this thread.
Has anyone ordered one of these covers for a boat that they have added a tower to themselves? I have a '97 Super Sport that I put a 2000/2001 FCT on. I just want to make sure it will still fit tight. Also, I am looking at either the black or gray material. Does anyone recommend one color over the other. I would like black, but if it is going to fade a lot more that the gray, then I may just go with the gray. Thanks for any help you can provide.

JWAT, I have been asking everyone to take measurements of their towers, whether they were installed by the factory/dealer or not. Instructions for taking the measurements are included on the order form.
I have noticed that very few (if any) factory towers are perfectly symmetrical side to side. Dimensions also seem to vary slightly between boats of the same year and model.
If you take measurements per the instructions, I dont doubt that Rankin will build you a great fitting cover.

I traded a couple of emails with Rankin yesterday. They have a new option that is not yet on their web-site...stripes. They quoted $125 as the additional cost for a stripe of a different color down the middle.

Rankin offers several options that are not being offered for this group buy- at least through me. This includes stripes, logos, sun skirts, etc.
Due to the custom nature of these options, it is difficult to establish pricing for all possible combinations. Direct communication with Rankin would benefit everyone in this case, so if you are interested in any of these custom options, please contact them at (425) 483-9266. If you mention this group buy, they may honor the base pricing that we have established.

For those who have bought covers..when towing do you tow with your covers on? If so have you had any issues (rubbing gel goat, flapping, etc.)?
Just curious to hear what others have to say about towing with/without covers on.

I spoke with Rankin yesterday and we have set an end date for the group buy. To participate, all orders must be submitted to me by the end of this month (April).
I have also received word that Rankin now has the template for the 1980-1981 Ski Nautique. Pricing will be the same as all boats under 21'.
Thanks to everyone for their interest!

Tim,
Thanks for setting this up! I got mine yesterday and it looks great (at least on the living room floor, haven't had it on the boat yet...).

Here's a quick pic of mine with the new cover. Fits great!
boysrus,
can you post some more pics? I have the same boat and just about to jump on this cover deal. I would like to see more pics though. Does the cover use hooks to attach to the rub rail? How about the transom area?
Thanks

boysrus, great looking tow package you got there... very sharp! Glad you are happy with the cover.
kylant, all the Rankins will attach in a similar manner. On the first page of this thread, you can see a few shots that show the felt covered metal hooks that grab the rub rail. On my cover, they attach about every 3 feet from the windshield back. You may have a few options for securing the back- I would think you could have it done similar to the 216 shown. The standard set up doesnt have the hooks along the transom- it uses straps instead (like the Malibu and 210 shown).

kylant,
I don't have any pic's that show much detail (I tucked it back in the shed because the weather went south again Yellow_Flash_Colorz: ), but Tim describes it pretty well. There's a rope that goes clear around (with snap hooks to go around the tower legs) that is sinched in the back with straps. From the windshield back are felt covered hooks that hook under the rub rail. At the back, there are 5 straps on the body of the cover that attach under the rub rail with the same type of hook - or maybe you could attach them to the swim platform. The back doesn't go clear down to the rub rail - it ends just far enough to cover the vinyl. This allows a more snug fit without the balloon at the back. I haven't towed with mine yet, but it looks very secure.
Everything seems to be extremely well made - far superior to the cover that came with the boat. It's tailored to fit snugly, and has re-inforcements and felt protection about anywhere that it could rub. There are zippered cut-outs for the tower legs - and even they have felt to keep the zippers from rubbing on anything.
Beyond that, there are probably others like Tim that can go into more detail, but based on what I've seen so far, I have no reservations about what I got for the money.
Tim - Thanks! Obviously, when it came time to buy a new truck - there just wasn't any choice in the color!
Thanks,
Jeff

Kylant, Ive only test fit my cover once, but the pics in this thread really tell the whole story. Im not sure what else you would like to see.
For anyone still on the fence, we're getting very close to the end- Monday 4/30 will be the last day to get order forms back to me. There is still time to get in- but the window of opportunity is closing quickly!

I know I'm too late for the gb, but could someone let me know what the lowest price was for a cover (if you can't post it up on here, just send a PM please)?
Looking to get one next year, and hopefully we can get another groupbuy - even if the price isn't the same, i just wanted to get a ballpark figure for how much a cover would cost for a 1997 Super Sport with a tower.

For a 21' boat or less (the cheapest), the price was $600. And I think if you have a tower there was an extra charge, but I do not have a tower so can't help you with the specifics (maybe $25 extra??). And shipping to the Twin Cities was $25. No tax. I should add the cover is great; fits like a glove on my 206.

Are there plans to start another round with Rankin anytime soon?

Im not planning to do so any time soon. I probably wont be motivated until I need a cover for another boat!
Not sure if Rankin would be interested in putting one through.

I would be interested for my 98 super sport.
I'd be interested for a 2006 SN196
Has anyone had any issues with the Rankin covers fitting on there 196's? Just picked mine up last week and it does not seem wide enough at the window or widest part of my boat. The draw string rides up on the sides and as soon as I start travelling down the road it starts flapping in the wind, and I have cinched the draw string as tight as it will go. I am in the process of sending some pictures tp Rankin to see if there is a problem. It's almost like there is too much padding on the window seam which won't let the cover wrap over the rub rails. Also, what kind of adjustments need to be made with the hooks, they are not even close to fitting over the rails and I am nervous to bend them or break them. The boat is a 2000 196, if anyone has pictures of theres it might help. I also mentioned the group buy a few times and they did not seem interested. Not impressed so far.

JC, the cover will be VERY tight to fit on the first few times. It will stretch after a while.
Dont be afraid to move those hooks. Theyre just held to the cover with velcro. Move them wider if it helps you get the drawstring below the rubrail. Dont even think about trailering if the hooks arent attached and the drawstring isnt where it needs to be- thats just asking for trouble!
The tight initial fit is a necessary evil when youre dealing with a precise cover that will last many years. Dont be afraid to manhandle the cover a bit to get it on when its new. Its built solid- you wont break it!
