View Full Version : Starting problem 2000 SAN
While on the lake yesterday we were doing runs and everything was great. All of a sudden our 2000 Super Air Nautique would not start. Seemed to turn over fine and sounded like it was going to start, but didn't. When I push the start button once I can here a relay clicking and the fuel pump whine for a second or two (normal), but the second key push only turns the engine over... no start. We got towed back to the ramp. Never had a single thing go wrong with this boat.. Any idea? Fuel looked good, temp looked ok, all guagues seemed normal. Does anybody have a schemetic of this thing? What are those two relays mounted near the engine breakers?

Doubt it is the two relays under the breakers. It could very well be your kill switch on the side (the red cord). A) either not in well or B) the switch itself is toast. Real easy to check that one. The more I read your description, it sounds like the kill switch giving you issues. Disconnect it on the back and clip off the connectors. Twist the two wires together and see if that gets it started.
This is a guess because without the boat in front of me, it is hard to figure it out.
I did a little more debug on this problem last night. I noticed that if I disconnect the kill switch I cannot hear the fuel pumps whine up. If the kill switch is clipped on, then the fuel pumps can actively be heard. This tells me that the switch is probably functional. The one thing I can't tell is if both fuel pumps are "whining" or just one. I think I need to get down in there a little deeper and listen better. I'll post results.

Sounds to me like it isn't getting fuel. If you haven't already, check to make sure the tank vent isn't clogged, and make sure your fuel filter is in good shape.
Here is the schematic of the relays that you requested.
