Going to vantage first week in august. Staying at the state park.
My brohter and I recently purchased a 1990 Sport Nautique. I live in Bellevue but keep the boat at my house in Wenatchee. Typically ski at Entiat.

We are in Lk Stevens, ski on Stevens, a bit on a few private lakes around Snohomish Co, and also get over to Entiat quite a bit. Best flat water in the state besides the private tourny lks!

I live in Kansas, but grew up in Bellingham and usually spend anywhere from 2-6 weeks there in the summer. My parents live on Whatcom, but their boat is a huge I/O - not the ideal slalom rig. Would love to get together and ski with Nautique owners on Whatcom, Samish, or wherever else in the area you might be when I'm up there next summer.

I have an 80 SN that I purchased in June 2006. Bought it to get my now 4 year old daughter ready to kick some serious @$% on the lake.
We primarily use the boat on Lake Nahwatzel near Shelton.
We will also be taking it to various lakes such as Banks, Lake Pend Oreille.

Another frequent Lake Sammamish rider. Sometimes take the family over and cruise on Lake Washington too.
Also my folks have a place on Coeur d' Alene lake, so I'm usually over in North Idaho for at least a week during the summer.
I feel bad that so many of you guys have to get up soooo early to get good water at Sammamish or battle the crowds and wait in line at the ramp. The first (& only) time I went there, I couldn't believe that there was actually a uniformed officer directing traffic on the ramps - a game warden I think. But for the number of boaters it went surprisingly smoothly. I'm out in the county part of Kitsap county where there are a lot of little lakes that are usually uncrowded. The ramps are rough dirt with no docks but you're going to get wet anyway - it's the tradeoff. We also go to Bank's Lake in May and Curlew Lake in August near the town of Republic. Anyone else been to Curlew? There are a few resorts/fishing camps and a nice State Park too.

I grew up in Entiat, live in SC due to military, but can't wait to get back to WA. Anyone going over to Entiat area for Memorial Day weekend? i am going to fly up for the weekend. My parents house actually overlooks the river, pretty much right above the boat ramp in the park. My dad actually used to run the park, kind of funny, nobody seems to ever know where Entiat is.... 8-)
Have driven past Entiat several times on my way to Republic to ski/fish at Curlew Lake. I'm not sure why but I always associate Entiat with summertime wildfires. I should stop and check out the river sometime, I always see a few boats but don't know where they put in.

Entiat has ahd is fair share of wildfires, two bad ones since we moved there in 1989. If you ever want to put in, there is a ramp at the Entiat City Park, take the first right turn of US97A after crossing the Entiat River. Or you could put in at a couple of places on the other side at the Orondo ramp, or go a few miles further and come across the Daroga State park, they some a very nice ramp. Not sure of cost though. I think Entiat park charges like $2 to launch, but not sure, as there is rarely anyone there to collect it anyway.

My wife and I are contemplating moving from Texas to washington in 6 months or so.
Her company might be opening an office in Bellingham, and I have a couple prospective job opportunities around Seattle.
As far a living is concerned, I guess we would want to split the differnece, but either way we want to find some lake front property. Any ideas for lake front property between Bellingham and Seattle that is fairly reasonable in price (I know it will be spendy, but no million dollar homes are in my future).
Big lake?
Clear lake?
Lake Goodwin?
Lake Whatcom?
Lake Stevens?

ag4ever- we live 2 miles away from Lk Stevens, and I can tell you that the real estate around here is getting price-crazy. within a couple of miles of the lake, average home price (lets say 2000sq ft, small lot) probably $400K. pretty much can't touch a fixer-uper on the Lake for under $800K. Big Lake might get you a bit more for a bit less. i can tell you this: Lk Stevens and Lake Goodwin get VERY busy in the summer months. winter months are great, but cold. average water temp is going to be 67-70 deg in summer, winter around 44 deg...chilly.
hope this helps you out-

Thanks, it looks like the move is becomeing more and more a strong possibility. There are still some hurdles to overcome, but it looks like it might happen.
Amy just looked at the average temps, and saw a record low of 4 and a record high of mid 90's. That would be a great change from our normal temps of 90's and higher here in Texas.
I also was driving down the road and got bored so started entering in various place in the nav, the route to Seattle would be about 2600 miles from here, and the route to the tip of maine would be about 2300 miles. So it appears we are looking to move as far away from where we are currently as we can while still staying on on the mainland.
$400k sounds ok, but $800 is starting to get a bit steep. We might have to settle for a lake view with lake access via trailer. Would rather to have the boat docked there so we can just jump in though.
I spend a lot of my skiing time at Entiat or further down river at Lincon Rock. Both parks are $5, Lincoln Rock has park rangers and Entiat has an older couple that is rarely at the booth but do drive around checking to see who has paid.
Lincon Rock seems to have glass water early in the morning, I think the dam helps calm it down or something. It's my favorite spot for the Wenatchee area. There is also a nice cove off to your right when you leave the ramp. The families/kids will come out and watch you rip up the water. There are three ramps at Lincoln and one at Entiat. Trying to put in or pull out in the evening at Lincoln Rock can be an experience on the weekend, be patient.

We deliberated on it for a while, and made a trip to the area and met with a real estate agent. In the end we decided to not go right now. The area was great and we still want to move up there, but we just were not ready to move this time.
We also decided we liked the Belvue area a little better and there might be an oportunity in the next few years to move there.
We will see.
The North-West is still my favorite part of the country due to climate.

Lake Spanaway represtenting. Swimmers itch, and seaweed growing out of my crevices to prove it. My favorite water is between Vantage and Crescent Bar on the Columbia River, and Banks Lake is rediculous also. I just joined to proud club of Nautique owners. 2 weeks ago I picked up my new baby, '05 211 Team.

Gotta put my vote in for Entiat/Columbia River! Pateros isn't too bad as well, with the exception that the river runs pretty fast when they are dumping water over the dam. Still, Columbia River still has the best glass for public water in the State!
Todd
I would have to agree with Todda. Entiat is a really nice spot, there is a lot of room to go up or down the river to find calm waters. Even if the wind is blowing, the river snakes around enough you can usually find places to hide from it. Closer to the dam, you can go behind the island to find some nice water early morning or late evening.
Cresent Bar is another great spot, up or down river. Just be cautious of the winds in that area, they can pick up quick and make it difficult for the low riding ski boats.
Further down river past Vantage is Desert Aire. It was private when I was a kid but it's open to the public now. It is very wide and always places to go and find calm waters. You do want to check the water levels, it is always changing due to the dams. Ron with Pacific Nautique is opening up a new shop in Desert Aire as well.
The only time I don't like the Columbia is during snow melt, a lot of logs coming down river.
Todda - where is Pateros?
RoJo - Is Desert Aire on the other side of Wanupum dam from Crescent Bar? I heard there's some gravel bars to watch for near the I-90 bridge.
HS - Yes it is below Wanupum dam, it is actually just above Priest Rapids dam. I haven't been by the I-90 bridge in a long time. Our family camped from Desert Aire up to Cresent Bar when I was a kid and I do remember seeing boats hitting the sand bars over the years. This is our first year having a boat with a depth finder. It will be interesting checking out the depth of the waters in the Columbia, if Summer ever decides to show up this year :|
RoJo - Thanks. We were at CB last weekend. Saw depths in the 85 - 95 foot range most of the time from the "dune" on up to the "cliffs". Thanks for the info - we might have time to check out some of these other spots the week of July 6!
HS - My brother and I were in Wenatchee all last week and never got wet once, unless you count pulling out debree so we could launch the boat. We hit CB a couple of times, paid our $20 to launch and made it just past the no wake zone before the winds picked up forcing us to pull out. Something out there did not want us to ski I suppose. National Geographic was out there filming something too.
We towed the boat back to the west side and been skiing American Lake either in the morning or late evenings. I am hoping to be back over in the Wenatchee area in July as well. We typically keep the boat in E. Wenatchee all Summer and ski at Entiat on the weekends.
Anyone happen to know if Long Lake in Port Orchard is OK to ski again? I am out of the loop on lakes in Western Washington. My brother mentioned it got really dirty and was closed but believes it is open again to skiing.
RoJo - Where is American Lake?
todda
06-13-2008, 10:35 PM
HS, Pateros is a little town up river from Bebe Bridge (bridge that crosses the Columbia below Chelan). Blink, and you will miss it. Pretty much just has a Motel (Lk. Pateros Inn), and a gas station/grocery store. The little Inn isn't too bad to park yourself for a few nights, and nice thing is it is right on the river.
HS - American Lake is at the North end of Fort Lewis. The other launch is being repaired, but the launch off Berkley is good to go. No dock, so you have to pick up/drop off your trailer driver in the water. Coming from Seattle/Bellevue, go I-5 South. Take Berkley exit (122 I believe), hang a right off the exit, go through the 4-way stop. Take a left at the end of the street, follow the road down around the corner then left again to the road leading to the launch. Usually a mill pond in the morning, lots of activity during the day and can typically find calm water in the evening if those jet skiers get off the water. Some sweet houses around the lake too, I can only dream of what it's like to live in one of those houses
Numerous Nautiques on the lake, I have wondered if anyone from the site is out there. This is my first year at this lake and it's fun for the family not the best for a die hard slalom skier in the Summer.
Will be at Crescent Bar next week.
My brother and I were at Lincoln Rock over the July 4th weekend. It was really light out there for being a three day weekend. Friday was blown out, but Saturday and Sunday morning were money. We got in 3 - 4 runs each day before the winds and people destroyed the water. Saturday evening near dusk was really nice too.
My house in E. Wenatchee is almost done with the repairs and a new garage door so I can actually get this boat inside, we will be over there every weekend soon. We usually go to Lincoln Rock, GREAT water in the morning for slalom skiers and I have a State Park pass, so launching at any state park is free kinda, the pass was $70 for a year. At $7 a day per vessel, I will make that up fast.
Are the winds calmer in July/August? We were there in June a couple of times and were blown out quickly. At $20 a launch to get blown out, gets costly. If you compare that launch/parking area to Lincoln Rock, Confluence or Hydro (free at Hydro) you wonder if they feel guilty for charging that much
todda
07-07-2008, 11:30 PM
I don't think any of them feel guilty as they are rollin' in the money for those launch fees! I don't know RoJo, but haven't we already paid for those State Parks with our taxes up here in the great (overtaxed) state of Washington?!?
Where is your place in E. Wenatchee? We are going over there for a job interview on Thursday. Possibly looking at relocating to the "best-side" of the state!
Todd
Good water Sunday and today, and the wind came up late afternoon each day. Water was butter smooth. More tomorrow. About 85 today
HS - Ahh, I am sitting at work reading about the water and insanely jealous. I love the water on the Columbia in the morning, it is almost always glass, just a little cold. I wish I could be out there. I was at American Lake last night, had to wait for the sun to set before the water started to calm down.
Todda - My grandmother died a few years back, my grandfather had built the house, so I bought it off the family. After I did that, my brother and I got into the sport, this is my second season for slalom skiing. I still work in Redmond, WA and need to find some work so I can move and ski every day. I totally agree with it being the best side of the state, I love that area. Amazing on how much it has grown since I was a kid.
Once the repairs to the house are complete, I will be back over there every weekend. Always up for hanging out and would love to find someone else that gets up early to ski/wakeboard or whatever they enjoy.
RoJo - you are right about the glass in the a.m. Sitting here at Crescent View and ready to head out...about 95 yesterday and should be a bit warmer today. So my pal has a Bu wakesetter 23 LSV and he loves the wake behind my SV 211. He was also very impressed with the power of the ZR-6 saying the boat jumps out of the water on takeoff.
HS - That's too funny, that's why you go with Nautiques  . I have never skied behind one of their crossover boats yet, I was a little tempted to buy the 216 but both my brother and I are into slalom and figured the hydro gate on the 206 would be good enough for our wake boarder friends. I have skied behind a couple older Malibu boats that my friends own, one has a 454 in his closed bow. That boat gets up and goes.
Some of my friends are giving me grief because it is so nice over there, I am working over time and my house is still being repaired. I can't wait until all the flood damage is repaired. I am not a fan of the lakes on the West side. WAY too crowded over here and few follow the rules. Now if only the Columbia could get as warm.
Todda - I completely agree. They should not ding us $70 for a year pass or $7 a launch, I have paid plenty in state taxes. Unfortunately they are VERY good at handing out a $134 ticket. I really don't have a problem paying the $5 launch fee to help the city parks, like Entiat, and couple that run that park are very nice people. For those that go to Entiat, they have been patrolling their lot and letting you know you didn't pay this year.
So if we wanted a warmer water lake on the eastside and nearby Quincy (Crescent Bar) that if we wanted a short drive to get to, what other spots should we hit?
HS - That's a great question. My brother and I had thought there was a ski lake close, we drove around trying to find something but have not had any luck. I know this state has numerous tournament lakes but I have yet to research them. They might be more on the West side. This is my second season into skiing since a kid, I am not ready for a course. I will do some checking around once my over time is over.
We wussed out this year, I wanted to start skiing early and purchased a Ski Warm Sahara Drysuit. We absolutely love the suit. Even though American Lake is warm, I will wear it in the evening so I can drive home dry.
I really think it would be tough to beat the early morning calm waters of the Columbia. The water is chilly but you can ski straight on calm water until your arms are ready to fall off.
If you're interested in dry suits, Adrenaline Water Sports in Bellevue was the cheapest place I could find unless you come across a sale.
http://www.adrenalinewatersports.com/proddetl.aspx?ID=765&CatID=8&SubID=17&pg=1
I have been using my 3/2 mm full wetsuit most days and it has been really nice. Boat says the water temp is between 58 and 62 (last week Sammamish was 70). Tried the shorty yesterday and it was "refreshing". Wife grew up skiing and drives the Nautique really well. Had rear tanks full and 2/3 in belly per suggestions seen on PN, and the wake has been totally awesome. Yesterday we rode miles of smooth water. Coming back from the sand dune area yesterday (across the river from the gorge amphitheatre) I rode about halfway the distance back to Crescent Bar. Saw about 10 - 12 other boats hanging at the dune, one just other Nautique (210).
That sounds insanely nice. 58 - 62 degrees, refreshing huh. Maybe mid day, that would be refreshing out there especially if the winds are down. Our 1990 Sport Nautique didn't have a bimini top and everyone fried last year, the new boat came with one and the friends/family are quite happy.
I drive by Sammamish every night on the way home and envy all the people out there playing. I have never been in that lake, I saw it in Water Ski magazine recently as one of the better lakes to ski in for early moring runs. I was going to give wake boarding a try this year, that way I have something to do during the day when the waters are busy. Leave the tubing to the kids and my stupid friends that think their bodies can take the beating.
I wish I had more friends I could trust to drive the boat, just myself, my brother and our friend that is housing the boat drive it. My girl friend is new to boats and won't even sit in the driver seat

Here on Lake Steilacoom in Lakewood, Wa. Have an 02 SANTE and trying to ski the slalom course. Luckily my buddy has an 04- 196 that we can use because the SANTE does not have a friendly slalom wake at 32 MPH. I am currently trying to sell or trade so that I can get in to an AIR around the same year.... We dont use our dry suits until November 1 and have to put them on the shelf on May 1 our ski club has this as part of the "Man Rules"... skied yesterday and today in the morning, it was 49 outside and 57 in the water yesterday, today was 44 outside and 57 in the water----COLD!!!!

Lake Sammamish riders: Just curious, is the lake patrolled by any local police (Redmond, Issaquah, Bellevue or Sammamish?)
I met a Mercer Island cop while I was at Snoqualmie Pass last season -- he patrols the Mercer Island shoreline area in Lake Washington.

We have seen officers on Lake Sammamish. Not sure if they were King County Sherrifs or one of the local cities, but we have seen them on large Jet Ski's and an aluminum boat. The only time we have seen them giving anyone a hard time was kids drinking on an abandoned dock near the north east side of the lake.

Lake Tapps checking in...
I don't remember the water being 63 in April, it was 42 in March when we started riding  . BTW I have a bimini too and love it, not only for the sun but the occasional light rain like earlier this morning.

I just bought a 2003 Ski Nautique 196LE with 37 hrs on it (Picking it up tomorrow) and am in Sun Cover in Orondo, WA on the Columbia River. Very excited to have a new boat. Best fathers day gift ever!!!! Here is a picture of my son and me in our last boat (sold it on Saturday). Sad to see it go as it was a great boat and a real sleeper skier, meaning no one had ever heard of it, but it had a GREAT wake for a 1987 inboard ski boat.
I will post a pic of our new boat and us when we get out tomorrow afternoon.
Looking for information, experiences and suggestions re: houseboat rentals on either Banks Lake or Lake Roosevelt.

HS - Seven Bays rents them, several sizes and there is another company also, try and google Lake Roosevelt house boats and you should get some more info. You cannot beat Roosevelt, especially the Spokane River arm, always calm water somewhere, never ending sandy beaches and best of all, solitude. Banks gets real rough, can get windy & ugly fast.
Have spent vacations at Roosevelt for 45 yrs years now and still look forward to it every year even though we live on Steilacoom Lake and ski yr round. Headed there again end of July for two weeks, can't wait.
Thanks, I'll check it out.

lakeroosevelt.com is a great place to rent houseboats on Lake Roosevelt. We just got back from a week there. They are located at the north end of the lake, up in Kettle Falls, but it is worth the drive. They only have 20 boats, so you feel like the lake is yours. a 30 minute cruise from the marina is a large bay that was glass nearly every day we were there. The people who work at the company are super nice and helpful, we already booked again for next year. Fantastic vacation, boat, and fun. You won't regret it!

Just moved to Spokane from Boise. Grew up on Pend Oreille and just went up for the weekend and looking for something closer with calm waters. Sounds like Roosevelt might be the place.
