has anyone had any problems after installing the $99 electronic ignition kit from skidim. my engine runs fine but falls on its face when i goose the throttle like the timing isnt't advancing. i'm thinking it must have something to do with the centrifical weights at the bottom of the distibuter but i didnt really touch them and they looked fine when i had it apart. anyways if anyone has any input it would be appreciated. it ran fine before i swaped out the points and i was going to take it back apart but it was gettin dark....Thanks

If the wires are crossed it will retard the timming.

the timing was the first thing i checked and it was just about perfect at 10 btdc . kinda wierd workky since you said yours was way off. i think im gonna talk to skidim and make sure i have the correct parts and maybe even put the points back on and see how it runs.

check the timming 32-34 at 2500. The difference at idle will be the inital. If this motor has lots of hours the timming chain will streech causeing the motor to need more timing.

I think that I'm having the same problem with my '83 SN. I went and installed a petronix electronic ignition, double checked everything else, (carb, timing, ect....) and I can't get the thing to tach past 3200rpm. I didn't get a chance to drive it with the points in it so I have no basis of improvement or not. Think I'll put the points back just to see what the difference is, if any. Other than being a slug, it does run well. I'll let you know what I find out and I'll keep posted to see if anyone else knows what's up.
