View Full Version : Which Surfboard?
LF Skimskate or HL Broadcast?
I'm trying to decide. Has anyone ridden both? I've currently got a LandLock and it's time to upgrade...
What did you not like about the Landlock. I just bought a Broadcast but have not tried it yet.
I don't like the landlock because it is too difficult to break loose for spins. I just want something that isn't as sticky. I think I'll be going with the Broadcast.

Depends on what you want to do. Hearing you say that the "Landlock" won't break loose is the same problem I had... until I put some 1.6" fins on. I've been able to spin, butter slide the board pretty easy (although I spin terribly!!)
Question that should make your decision: Do you want to Surf or Spin or both? If surfing you will want something similar to the Landlock (Shred Stixx, New LF big board, etc.). For spins, something smaller like the Skimskate, Phase 5 (hope to demo this soon), and other small boards. I'm looking for something that will allow me to do both. I like surfing, and doing some spins. So I am actually looking at the Broadcast, New CWB board (can't remember the name), or having someone make one for me (guy here in ATL has some experience doing this)
Hope this helps.

i have a landlock. and my buddy has a skimskate. everyone on the boat seems to have trouble riding the skimskate. maybe its just getting used to it . i dont know. havent ridden the broadcast. i would also recommend small fins. thats what the hyperlite rep has his.

I justy got a Broadcast and it is pretty sweet. You can surf on it great but also really unlock the fins and get it squirrelly and spin. It is faster than ther landlock I think too so it can be easier to throw the rope and keep up. I highly recomend the Broadcast!!

I just got the Skimskate 60... the larger version of the Skimskate. I really like this board alot! I rides very easy, is loose enough for spins, and doesn't "nose dive" as much as Landlock. I haven't tried the Broadcast... but really do like my new skimskate

I have a Broadcast too and I love it! Its surf really nice and its easy to spin on also. It doesn't nose dive very easy either. I demoed the Landlock last year and I didn't really like it either, that's why I went with the Broadcast.
I ended up buying a Broadcast, found a great deal I couldn't turn down. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but I'm sure it will be a nice change from the Landlock.

I bought an actual kids surfboard last year; a 5' 6" fish. It's very fast and pretty good all around and can break loose if I leave in only the small center fin.
Then, today I borrowed a Trick Boardz (1) Surf Skate and (2) Freestyle. The Freestyle was suprisingly hard to stay on while slashing, but the Surf Skate was unbelievable! The board is like an overgrown wakeskate (it's made of wood), with a convex base to help hold a line and carve. Here is a link to the review in Wakeworld.
