Did any of you Northern California guys or gals get out this weekend?

I went up to Bear Valley to watch the annual pond skimming event. 60 and Sunny when we arrived, snowing by the time we left.

They say it will reach the 80s next weekend, so maybe its finally time to start the season. BKH

Brian what do you concider getting out.

I went to the lake with a friend. We water tested his boat. We went there to find a leak in his Mater Craft. We thought it was gonna be the packing. So we diped the boat in the water and Yes the packing was bad. So we replaced it. Then put the boat back in the water and found MORE water rushing in. It was gushing in from where the swim platform bolt's to the transome. Cracked fiberglass and all. We pulled it out took it home and ground out and repaced all the bad fiberglass. Tha was my getting out story sorry so long

Grant,

I guess that counts. At least you weren't home mowing the lawn. Bonus points, someone else's boat was broken  It's always better to work on someone else's broken things because you can go home even if it is not yet fixed. BKH

Brian,

Made is out to the Delta on Sunday via Discovery Bay Marina Launch ramp. Ramp fee was half price and they allowed me to park my truck and trailer in the prep area next to the ramp (as opposed to all the way down past the dry docks). Hardly any boats out. Water temp was about 57, air temp wasn't much over 60. It was windy and cold, but then again, the worst day on the boat is still........ You know the rest. The only real draw back was the amount of debris in the water.

I had to head to Sacto today and drove up through the river roads. Water still is really high and a lot of the snow melt yet to come could be a long spring of high water. I'd be scared of everything floating and the things you don't see just under the water alnong the delta and Berryessa. I just have my fingers crossed that I can hit Donner Lake Memorial Day wknd. :)

Skiswm, Donner Lake, very nice, and very cold as I remember. Don't they still have about 15' of snow around the lake?

Greg, Send me a note when your coming to Discovery Bay. I've usually got a cold one or two in the fridge. With the high tides, there is a LOT of debris in the water. BKH

BKH,

If all goes well and the weather holds out, it might be on Saturday. Supposed to be the warmest day of the year. I will send you a note as we get closer. Are you on the water?

Thanks,

Greg

What's 15 feet of snow, they say it may hit 70 in Reno by the weekend so I am hoping here soon the white stuff disapears. But, isn't that what we put in heaters, showers, and buy wetsuits for anyways? I'd like to head out in the bay area sometime soon, but work and other things seem to take up all the time.

I’m heading to Folsom tomorrow. Went out in March and crap everywhere in the lake. I wish the river would calm down.

Mine is at Hammer's right now having the dual battery set up, docking lights, repowdered tower and nav light installed. I will pick up tonight and it goes to the stereo shop tomotrrow for new amp 6 new Polk Momo's, new Sub, and installation of new tower speakers. It will most likely go in to the slip at Lake Somoma in late May after all the debris is cleared out and the water is clear. Call me anal but I dont need to replace another skeg due to errant chunks of wood!

Greg, of course I'm on the water. Didn't know there was any other reason to live out here  Drop me a note

Skiswm - Apparently I bought wetsuits, etc. to collect dust in the garage. I just don't have the same zeal for cold water that I once did. I do like that heater though when I'm driving for those who do.

OK Brad I'll call you anal. Last time I checked those tracking fins were under $100. I think I might take a $100 bet vs. giving up an entire month on the water.

They say we'll finally hit high 70s low 80s this weekend. Hope to see you guys out on the water. BKH

It's about 75 minutes away. Haven’t been to Bullards Bar in a few years however a great lake. The best camping lake in the area(that I know of). Has anybody tried the floating campsites at Oroville?

Yes, I've heard great things about Bullard's. Just thought it might have less debris???

I think Bullards is the best kept secret around. We houseboated summer before last in June. It has to be one our favorite spots. And yes bkhallpass that is where I ruined my leading skeg as there was a lot of debris. It will be even worse this year with all the late season run off. The floating campsites are Oroville are great from what I have heard and we were going to try to get over there this summer. Another reason we dont start until late May is that we are still in Dirt Bike season and every weekend we will be out camping and riding with our new Weekend Warrior.

Just got back from a 3 day houseboat trip at Oroville. Weather wasn't great and there was ALOT of drift wood, but it was still a good time. Already made it out to Boca twice, not quite as cold as Donner but there was still snow on the banks. Pretty cold, but really fun. The snow is starting to melt pretty fast up here.

Saturday was great. Sunday, windy in the morning, but calmed down nicely in the afternoon. No worries, still 6 months of prime boating season left. I've always been partial to the blues. Nice boat. BKH

BKHallPass......I lived in Discovery Bay from 1982 to 1999. Lived on the Lake for 2, on Beaver Ct for 9, and marina condo's for 5. We were members of Berkley about 25 yrs.....Viewing the boat pic I could probably guess what street you live. 8-) Say Hey to Jeff the harbor master.

Sper ... how'd you get in? Gravel road from Prosser? I heard that Homeland Security closed the road going over the dam at Boca because it was too close to I-80.
