The LED lights are for the trailer--On the weekends I travel over two mountain passes to get to our house on the river. Seems like every idiot--no matter how fast I am driving has to pass me. I want to make certain they see me long before they hit me.

The Air Chair has become a crowd favorite--nothing like the feeling of floating through a tight canyon on summer evening. My dealer and I are working on some mounting options--tower has obvious disadvantages.

I am looking at making some enclosures for the tower that will accept lights. Like to ride on Lake Chelan--Water Clarity is 100 feet (Big Cold Swimming Pool) But is very crowded except late evening and at 5:00 AM.

You will love the 216! Congradulations.

Ahh...i see.... But i don't understand why the tower is a disadvantage for the air chair, wouldn't it be easiest because you can put the hydrofoil on it? It does take up a lot of space and is not an easy thing to move. I skyski myself and our friends are lucky enough to have a lakehouse, se the skyski is kept there. Also a little confused about what you mean with the tower lights enclosures... Can't you just get a tower and stick some lights on? Just drill 'em in? Our boat is gonna be taken to a place called The Sound Concept which usually works on cars. This is gonna be his frst boat! They sell all of the lights and speakers and stuff...The drive has gotta be awesome through the mountains! I agree with the LED idea for the trailer, we already put some on our old 82 ski trailer.

And i've got one more question...(**** i really do sound like an idiot) why exactly do you want a naked boat? When i went to the factory i saw a boat being made naked. It was all neutrual...not even writing or stripes on it.

lcap,
What was/is the advantage to having the dealer install the heater and shower? Are they doing it free of charge?

lcap
02-03-2004, 12:47 AM
My dealer installs the heater in the gunnel port side next to the passenger, the tube reaches four seats. Factory installs the heater tube beside the gull wing seat, which allows only one, maybe two people to use it.

They also like to mount the shower so the controls and shower head are easily accessible. In the NW I can ski/ride in 70 F water one day and in 56 F river water the next. This requires constant fiddling with the shower.

The dealer also will not order towers from CC painted. Too much shipping damage.

Its nice having a dealer that only sells and uses CC. Because of this, they set the boats up in a way that works for where we live and play.

Nothing is for free!

Icap--

Looking forward to seeing some pics of your new baby. I kind of like the "naked" idea. I've only seen that on older Nauti's (after the decals have seen better days). Who installs the rollers for the prop guard? Is it just some welding and what kind of rollers do they use? We liked the idea when we saw them on MC's trailers...we were thinking of installing them on our '04, but didn't know who we should go to. Cheers to warmer weather!!

My local dealer is Pacific Nautique, they are fantastic!

I ordered the trailer with the Rollers installed by DHM. Rollers are a requirement on a DHM tandem--the prop guard hits everything! It will knock the head off a mouse if it looks up. My last boat with a DHM trailer I purchased the rollers from an RV store and had one of my guys weld them on.

CC was nice enough to send the stickers seperately so I can put them on if it looks bad without them.

Most trailer manufacturers have these options, you just have to ask for them.

The tower is about the worst place to hang an Air Chair. Very awkward with the center of gravity to hang on a rack. They also obstruct the driver, even if mounted on the passenger side. Wake Design is trying to come up with a better solution. For your 216 I found a bracket that mounts behind the drivers seat. Holds the Chair upright.

I have a house on the Columbia river--no docks allowed.

Instead of seperate mounts on the tower, I am looking into having a custom fiberglass enclosure made to house the speakers and lights.

I want a very clean looking boat, the beauty of any machine (cars, boats) are in the lines.

AbunDiga909
02-03-2004, 06:32 PM
i agree with the clean look of boats and cars...i do think like that myself...look at my post about satelite radio..he has a custom molded fiberglass for his speakers...its awesome...

I asked our local dealer about the hanging a skyski on it...he said it was fine...but that doesn't mean much...Think of it this way...would you stand on the side of the tower holding on to teh top for a couple of minutes? I would think that you weigh a lot more than your hydrofoil, so even though it looks like its gonna rip the tower apart, it prob wont...its the brackets that may take the stress...13th floor makes a nice looking one and i've seen one where its literally on the top of the tower with upside down with the strut facing up...now thats freaky...

I test skied my first Nautique nine years ago on December 4th. I applied the 80 degree rule. If the water plus air temp equals 80 degrees, I'm skiing. 80 degrees was probably a stretch that day and the poor salesman was out on Lake Washington in the pouring down rain pulling me around with pneumonia. At the end of my session, he practically gave me the boat so he could go home and go back to bed.

Rob and I have worked together ever since.

skinautique,

the website is www.zieman.com. zieman is a west coast based manufacturer of many types of trailers. never owned one before, but my dealer (hammer ski & marine in northern california...www.hammerski.com) loves them and they look great. they seem to have really high end components, a nice finish, an excellent bunk layout, full box tube steel construction, plenty of amenities (swing tongue, prop guard rollers, color choices) etc. i will get back with you in a couple of years to let you know if they work as well as they look! i have a dhm under my 95 sport, and although i have not had any significant problems with it for some reason it always seemed half a notch below the boat in terms of quality. had to replace the cheesy jack that came on it (replaced it with a fulton which is great) but outside of that no problems. hope that helps.

Its sad to make the assumption that because something positive is said about a business we must have something to do with it. Since a dealer cannot sell outside its territory, my raves serve little use. The answer is no.

Pacific Nautique's is one of the best businesses I have ever worked with. Rarely does a business impress me enough to say something.

Pacific Nautiques is an exception.

The owners started the dealership becuase they loved and believed in Nautiques. It is the only product they sell. They use and work on the products they sell. They constantly look into ways of improving the boats and adding things they believe will make a skier/wakeboarder/families time on the water better.

They are honest sometimes to their detriment. They stand behind what they sell--I have had things that broke after the factory warranty and Pacific insisted on paying the bill because THEY did not think it should have broke. I have had them offer me a new boat for a weekend if mine could not be fixed in time.

They do not believe in lawyers, paperwork or promises they cannot keep.

I could not be happier that I have seen them go from selling boats in the back of a grocery store to their current location. If anyone deserves props (pun) intended, it is Pacific Nautiques.

The ultimate compliment comes from other local dealers. When they find out I have/had a Nautique the first question is, "do you know Ron and Rob." If I reply yes, they know they do not have a chance of selling me one of their boats and they quickly turn their attention to another customer.

I didn't say Pacific Nautiques. I only mentioned pacific after realizing you were on the west coast, coincidentally so is Pacific Nautiques, possibly where BOTH of you got your names from. Relax dude, stop trying to fight everybody on the internet.

This Saturday my family drug our "new" 1999 Sport Nautique to storage. Traded in our 1988 SN. Got a tower and perfect pass on order thru the dealer. Hopefully get that work done in another month or so.

Starting to get the itch folks....even though we froze our butts off when we had to wipe down the boat after towing it thru ice/snow/salt covered roads on Saturday. But it was worth it.

get that salt off the trailer.

if you have a 'boxed' trailer, they eat away from the inside. it looks real purdy and then it breaks. been there and drug that puppy to the house throwing sparks.

open c-channel is the way to go if you do the salt on the road or salt in the water thing. flush out the boxes if you can.

On the air chair (sky ski) mount, I made a custom mount for mine. It looks like a flight clip except it stick out at approximatly 90 degrees instead of angling up at like 30 degrees. I guess the best way to describe it is it looks like an L. There is a little spring in it, so the chair does bounce a little, but I think that will reduce the actual stress applied to the tower. Right now it is not painted, and I plan to have it powder coated. To secure the chair, I slide the sky into it like I would a wake board, and secure it with the bungee that was canabolized from the original flight clips.

I will try to take a pic so you can see what I am talking about. I think it is the best sollution for a chair on a Nauty.

AbunDiga909
02-19-2004, 08:03 AM
ag4ever, I agree, your system sounds perfect. However, the board racks I see on the market don't look strong enough to carry a skyski in harsh water. Did you do any modifications to yous to make them stronger?

ag4ever
02-19-2004, 10:14 AM
I made it out of 1/4" steel flat bar, and some 1/4" thick walled 2" diameter steel pipe. The entier thing was custom fabricated to look like a flight clip, just with different bends.

Right now it is sitting on my work bench waiting on a type of finish. I think I will just paint them to test them a couple of time on the water.

I have had the ski in it while in the driveway, and shook the crud out of it using ALOT of force, and it looked like the clip took all of the force, and not much of it was transfered to the tower. I don't even have a second attachment point at the ski strut like the typical mount. I am 100% sure that this is the best way to mountthe ski to the tower.

I guess I will just have to get it powdercoated before the owner's reunion in San Antonio, so I can show it off there.

I will try to get it painted and installed before the weekend so i can take some shots of it in the water on sat.

These are the mounts I made. Right now they are primed. I plan to finish painting them, then testing them on the water before having them sand blasted and epoxy coated then powder coated. When I send them out I will also send a set of the original flight clips out too so they can be powder coated red to match part of my tower.

You can see in this lats photo that I don't hve the flight clips on the port side, as that is where I plan to hang the chair.

Kudos on the mounts and boat, what is with the two different trailers?

ag4ever
02-20-2004, 09:22 AM
I wanted a galvinized trailer, and don't care for the shorlander, so when i bought the boat I also had a custom trailer made. The Magnum trailer (made in Austin) holds the boat about 2" lower, and just fits better. While the trailer was being made the dealer loadned me the shorelander. It was an ok trailer, but I do a lot of towing and the magnum just holds the boat better plus I have two spares sitting under the bow of the boat, which I would not be able to do with the shorelander.

I really needed the lower trailer too, so I could get the boat in the gargae without defalting the tires every time. It really got old deflating the tires backing up 2' and reinflating the tires then doing it again to get out. Now I just fold the tower and just put it in the garage, although it does spend most of it's life in storage.

The first picture was one week after we got the boat, and is the "insurance" picture.

The second picture was after about 4 months of ownership, and was taken in austin where we prefer to boat.

Here is the painted/mounted clip.

http://users2.ev1.net/~ag4ever/nautique/dsc00389s.jpg

Here it is with the ski in it.

http://users2.ev1.net/~ag4ever/nautique/dsc00381s.jpg

I tested it in some chop today (nothing wild like lake travis) and the only time I wished it was sturdier was at over 35 mph in choppy water. At slower speeds going over double ups it was fine. It shook a little, but was not bad.
