Amp and Sub location??

Picking up my new SAN on Friday and want to see where people have there subs and amps mounted... I have 2 amps to mount and 1 12". I assume I'll be building a box but not sure where yet. Thanks for the help...

I have a Fiberglass Sub box located in the left-rear storage hatch on my 03 SAN. Sounds great. Amps are located in the observers seat hatch on an amp board propped up on the far left side.
WARNING - You CANNOT screw your amps in directly to the Fiberglass, you will go through the hull or the side. No, this didn't happen to me, I have heard it happen, but it is something I think all people should be aware.

Do you ever have any problems with the box getting wet back there?? I definitely know about the mounting against the fiberglass, that's why I'm asking about locations. Thank you though. Anybody else and how about some pics of your amp and sub locations.. Thanks again..

No problems here, Fiberglass box helps, but I usually put my dry stuff on that side, and wet stuff on the other side.
As far as amp location, I think you pretty much are left with just one place, and that is near the stereo. The Sub can probably be located in:
1. Sub box custom built in place where the main cooler is.
2. Sub box near the feet of the driver (Extremely hard on a '03 due to the "hump" holding the backing where the heater, fusebox, speaker, and perfect pass is located.
3. Underneath the Observers seat (easiest place, but it is in the way of putting boards and stuff in there)
4. Right or left engine hatch (Probably need a waterproof box just in case, very solid but needs alot of amps to hit hard, a little muffled, mostly out of the way with storage, but enought to keep you from holding boards on that side.)
5. Right behind the drivers seat, specialized box, and probably the most expensive if you want to make it look stock.

I have found the most efficient place and best sounding is a ported enclosure under the observer seat. Port the enclosure toward the bow of the boat and or fire the sub forward. This will use the front of the boat and will "load" the sound. Same effect in a hatchback car, fire the speakers towards the rear and you get a bigger boom. Yes you lose storage, but there isn't a whole there to begin with. A 12 will need about 1.25 or more cub. ft. depending on the woofer. I am against mounting speakers in the rear storage spots only becuase of moisture, and that destroys subs because most subs do not have rubber surrounds like most midrange drivers.

i have a 12" sub underneath the seat which look to the back (will post pics asap).. the sub amp is screwed directly to the sub case!
the other amp is placed under the radio..

I used a rather unique idea for the sub box on my 2003 SAN that my dealer told me about. I removed the "box" that was under the middle cushion on the left side of the boat just behind where the passenger/spotter would sit. This box would be under the legs of the passenger if they had them extended out instead of bent and on then floor. This box from CC is a composit plastic box (waterproof of course) that the cushion sits on with cup holders on the edge and carpeted. I removed this plastic box and built another box out of plywood for my 10 inch L7 sub enclosure. It appears exactly the same size as the factory box but is a little different on the inside due to sub volume and the vent. The top however matches the factory design with cup holders in the same area as factory. Once the box was built, I had it Line-Xd. For those of you who don't know, Line-X is the stuff that guys use as a spray on bedliner. I then carpeted the box to match the carpet in the boat. The only thing I gave up was an ice chest that was built into that factory box but there are 2 other ice chests in the boat that are similar so it was no big deal.

As for the amps, I have 3 Kicker amps. All three are located under the passenger gull-wing seat. I mounted them vertically and staggered them in a way so I could get to each of the gain controls on the top of each amp. There is air space all around them for better cooling and 2 support braces on top that connect the vertical mounting boards.

Also mounted two amps on the port side wall. Cut some centra board to size and then pulled back the carpeting from the side and then glued the board in behind the carpeting. Then took a board carpeted it and mounted the amps to the board. Then mounted the board to the centra board on the side. Mounted another amp on the inside walk through panel under the observers seat as well. All three amps take up no space on the floor nor do I loose any storage.

Here are some pics of my stereo install. Using Blaupunkt 2100 amps. Nice amps at only $150 each from Crutchfields. Class T amps which run cooler and can be put into plastic cases. I find them to be pretty clean.

everything looks great except one thing. I really hope those aren't speaker wires inside the plastic conduit tied up to your power and ground wires. Power and speaker wires don't mix. You will probably experience interference in your subs from the power wire. It's best to keep the two separate, but if they must cross paths, do so at a 90 degree angle for minimum interference. Current induces a magnetic field around a wire, which will then induce a current in any other wire, which will give you unwanted current going to the subs.

I agree with Holywood about the signal wires being ran together. You might get a little unwanted noise but I always heard that you could not run RCA and power wires together. I guess they are the same thing - RCA and speaker - they are both carrying the signal???

Nice install though and good idea with the amps covered in plastic.

I did what I had to do to get the wires where they needed to be. I haven't noticed any interference in signal.

If everything sounds good, that's great. I was just throwing that out there incase you did come across a problem. RCA wires carry the signal from the receiver to the amp. Then your speaker wires carry the 'amplified' signal from the amp to the speakers. So intern, they both carry the signal. Either wire can pick up interference. A RCA wire getting inteference will be especially bad because that will also get amplified.
