Okay gang, I need some help here.

My wife finally got the '78 sn she has lusted for since it was new. The previous and only owner, her sister, kept it on a lift all summer and in a bunked loft at a marina during layup. The boat was rarely trailered and when it was they had to be cautious with the prop & rudder given that it is an old single axle with Correct Craft's name on it and a bunch of boat hangs off the rear of the trailer. (boat and trailer new together)

We live in the country and for a ton of reasons, would never live on a lake again. So, a lot of trailering will be done.

1) Does anyone have any idea just how much boat should be hanging off the rear of the trailer?

2) Where should the bow rest be located? I am talking about the vertical steel frame with padded bunks that the bow snugs into. This one seems like it should be closer to the tow vehicle as the tongue weight can't be more than 40 - 50 lbs.

3) Does anybody have a way to protect the rudder and prop on one of these trailers? The angle between the axle, end of frame and prop seem just right to crater the prop on a steep driveway or backing uphill.

Yeah, I know, buy a new trailer. I just don't see that happening any time soon.

Sorry for the length of this post, just a lot of questions.

Don

loosen the bow stop and get your tounge weight where it needs to be. i have always heard 10-15%. scoot it up an inch and see what you get.

the 1960 has no protection for the prop or rudder. i use a 10" drop reciever to keep the stern up as high as possible.

the guard on the 89 trailer is a bolt on affair. i can take some pictures of it at the boat cave if you want to replicate it. there are some photos of vintage trailers at ccfan on the 72 brochure page, but they ran naked also.

my single axle cc 1989 trailer fits the 72 ski and the 69 deep v v-drive. it would probably fit the 60, but i have not tried that yet.

i think my 72 separator i/o hung off the back of the trailer. maybe even a foot or so. (sorry, it has been a few years.) i do remember the trailer had to be perfectly level during loading or you could forget it.

if you EVER want to sell your old trailer, i would be interested in it for the 69. i want to add a couple skegs and i need an inboard trailer to do so.

I'm not sure what your trailer set up is like but here is a pic of my 86 trailer and boat that may give you an idea. Good luck.

This is how my old boat was also.I had a lot of tongue weight on it,the only thing we could figure is that they needed to move the axle up towards the front a little more.Never had a problem with it though exept that it sat to high,so we lowered the trailer a little.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the input.

I did some snooping around on older sn's at a local marina. Compared to the vast majority that I found this bow stop was installed backwards. It is also about 4 - 5" too far back. Turning the stop around and sliding it a bit forward will gain about 16" in moving the boat forward.

If my guesses about the boat's center of gravity are right, this should bump the tounge weight up to about 235 lbs. A weight I feel a lot better about.

While this leaves a foot or so of boat off the rear of the trailer, it looks like the prop/rudder will be better protected.

Tryan, we're going to try this at several of the ramps we use this spring. If it doesn't work and you are still interested we can probably work something out. Dont' hold your breath though, this looks a whole lot better!

Thanks again,

Don

the bow stop ' L ' should face the rear of the trailer, because your highest load will be under braking. is yours similar to the one on the right?http://www.correctcraftfan.com/reference/1973_brochure/images/ccGraphic6.jpg

1] Workky; thanks for the picture, I couldn't open it yesterday??? The boat will probably be an inch or two further forward than yours now that I have 'fixed' the trailer.

2] Tryan; yep, it now looks like the one on the right. Thanks.

Just amazes me that it wasn't changed long before now! I know it was not used much at all, but it seems that someone would have noticed it??? Oh well.

Thanks again,

Don

That was a site issue due to his double post. I fixed it last night.
