View Full Version : Lifting Eyes

Two questions:

1) The older sn's ('78/79) have what appear to be one lifting eye on both the bow and stern. Does anyone know if these can be used to pick the boat off the trailer?

My wife's boat needs a good hull cleaning and the trailer needs a bit of work that cannot be done with the boat on the trailer. Picking the boat up is no problem, just need to know where to grab it.

2) Just how strong is the bow eye that the turnbuckle tiedown attaches to. I'd like to install a hand winch to get the boat further up the trailer when hauling out but don't want to rip the eye out. Hate it when that happens!

Thanks,

Don

inspect the hardware underneath the eyes first, but they are made to pick up the boat. do it slow the first time.

you might need to back the trailer in a little deeper, find a steeper ramp or just give her a little gas to run her up on the trailer. i put the fenders an inch below the water and give her some gas.

i would pull it on with a winch. lets see that '78

Tryan,

Thanks for the responses. I am just a bit nervous about ripping the eyes out, I know, they're made for it, but that doesn't mean I can't be nervous.

As for pictures, I'll try to get some taken and posted soon.

Thanks again,

Don

i chipped the chrome off of one using a metal hook, so you might want to use some padding. glen-l sells a unique eye.
