Last night, out of the blue, I was given a gift by all of the volunteers that I work with at church (Student Ministries). It was a complete surprise and just about knocked me off my feet.
One guy had the idea, did the research and got me a HO Triumph 71" slalom ski with Venom bindings. They all kicked in to help pay for it.
I am 6'5" and 260 lbs....so I am guessing that this ski is probably the biggest slalom ski made... Yellow_Flash_Colorz:
This is my first "good" ski. In fact I have really only skied with the slalom out of a set of combos. So, what should I expect? Anybody else have this ski?

If friends gave me a ski like that, I'd LOVE it, by definition, even before I'd ever skied on it. You must do a lot for this group for them to think so highly of you.
I have the 71" Magnum with some venom bindings, which was the predecessor to your ski. They have made some improvements to the ski so it should be even better.
I'm also pretty big (6'2" and 235). The ski is real easy to get up, performs well, particularly on open water. It doesn't really like to go
above 34 mph, but that's ok, most people don't ski faster than that anyway. I have trouble skiing a comp ski anymore due to hand injuries, so this ski has been great for me. It will be a big imporvement over your old combo, and I'm sure you'll like it.

That's really nice of them. Congrats and thanks for giving them the help that lead them to be so generous.

CONGRATS!! Thats an awesome gesture!
I just started slolaming this summer. So far I've had a blast. I picked up a lightly demoed HO Truth 167. The guy at the shop laughed and said "it would be like a 16 year old trying to learn to drive in a Ferarri". I thought to myself "hes doesnt know me very well" LOL
I did just fine and got up on my third pull...its been all downhill from there....at least I have a ski that my skills will never outgrow. HA!
What replaced the Truth in the HO lineup? Anyone know?

The System 8 replaced the Truth and the Monza replaced the Phantom Truth.
S8 is the same ski as the Monza with diferent core. A little heavier.

Another perfect day...and I am still in the office. Man, I can't get that ski off my mind. It's good to hear that this ski should be awesome. I appreciate the feedback.
I am still trying to think of a way to tell all of them how much I love the gift as well as try to do something to "show" how much I appreciate what they did.....there's too many of them to take out skiing at once...and it would take me 3 months to get all of them out only using the weekends....????

Just show them the pictures of you crashing. That'll make their day Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

No pics of me crashing....but the ski was awesome.
Got up easy and was really fast. However, I think I am going to need some instruction.....I think with a ski like this, my technique is in need of some major tweaking. Going to be a fun fall.....
