Question on Replacing Airguide Speedometers

I was lucky to recently find a couple of Airguide speedometers for my '94 Sport Nautique at Discount Inboard Marine. Now comes the hard part. Has anyone replaced these gauges before? If so, could you provide some advice on how to do it?

should be pretty easy. Undo the thumb screws on the dash and on the back of each gauge, there is a bracket with two nuts holding each one on. Undo those and remove the hoses from the back of each and plug into the new ones. Do one at a time so you don't cross them up. Should be able to do it in 20 minutes or less. your reply made me think of a question. one of my little kids over twisted the knob on the small black target speed indicator needle on the lens of my airguide speedo on my 95 sport, and as a result the needle is bent a bit and drags against the face of the speedo. how difficult is the disassembly of the speedo to fix the problem or should i just skip the fix? we have pp and never use the needle indicators, in any event. the fix would only be for cosmetic purposes. thanks.

It isn't too bad. The only thing is that you would have a pinhole in the guage because you can't get new needles. You can remove the guage and pop the rim off of it and get it out of there if you want to. It isn't tough at all.

thanks for the info. the needle is not severed from the knob, but it is just twisted a bit. if i can get inside of the speedo, i think i could bend the needle back into place enough so that it would function. do i need to take the speedo out of the dash from the backside and then take it apart or can i simply unscrew (or pop off) the bezel around the front of the speedo while it is still installed, lift off the lens and make the fix? thanks tons.

It is alot easier to take it out of the back side of the dash. You might be able to loosen the bracket on the back and get it out that way. Be careful when you are popping off the bezel. Good Luck

Thanks for your help. Installing the new speedometers was a lot easier than I originaly thought it would be. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until next season to see if they work.

Glad to hear it went well for you. If you have an air compressor, you can be really careful and put the nozzle perpendicular to the pickup and give it a quick burst of air and see if it registers in the guage. If not, it should work just fine as long as you have the lines hooked up well on the backsides of the guages. It is a pretty simple system.
