Offered the marina 1500 bucks for it. Needs new floor, carpet, upholstery, engine tune up, teak swim platform needs some attention, the trailer is in rough shape. There are cracks in the gel coat but nothing serious. The stringers seem to be solid and not rotted. Looks like it would make a good boat with some TLC. Its not worth 3,500 as is. The marina is goning to contact the owner who moved to Coloardo and see if he accepts my offer.

Does this seem like a good deal for 1500?

You couldn't go wrong at $1,500. It sounds like a fun project, and you could have a killer boat when completed.

If the floor needs re-done...usually the stringers do too. I know you said they are ok but I think you'd be surprised when you pull that floor how much wet goo you'll find.

Stingers are a big job, depending on your skill set. You'd have to decide what your time is worth for such an undertaking. You may find the boat wouldn't be such a deal, even at $1,500.

yeah true that. I tried tightening the bolts that go into the stringers from the engine mounts.they didnt spin in the wood, from what i've heard from other SN owners its a tell tale sign that if the bolts spin in the wood its no good. my buddy has a 1988 malibu skier with close to 1500 hours on it with originial stringers and hes put floors in his twice. The floors in this are not terrible just noticed some soft spots. it is tough to know exactly what condition the stringers are in tho. just waiting on the owner now...

floors are a saturday project, i just dont want to do stringers. and i dont want to get a boat for 1500 and put 4000 into it when i could have bought a better turn key boat for the same amount.

This boat is a real valid deal at 1500 bucks! I was actully telling a friend about this boat (saw it on CL couple weeks ago). He ended up getting an I/O wellcraft :(

its a deal if you have the time and $ to put into it. I think i'm going to try to get another nautique that is closer to turn key condition. The owner never contacted me about my offer. I'm looking at 2 in CT that are in the 4000-5000 dollar range, that look like they have been loved alot more than this boat.

Good plan! I could see having a project boat, along with having a usable one at the same time. Summers are short enough as it is, and I'd rather use mine boating versus refurbishing.

That is what winters are for. When you do dig into a boat, you need to prepare for a long haul. It ain't cheap, and it ain't quick. I am approximating that I have about 300 actual hours into the Mustang, not including planning, shopping, just staring at it, etc. I won't even get in to the money aspect of it. It is a labor of love. I have about 150 hours into my 67, and took last winter off. Goes faster the second time around. I still have to put the spray rails in, install a floor, and get the motor assembled to a functioning block. Then all the peripheral stuff; exhaust, electrics, fuel system and such. Then, I have to rebuild my whole interior, upholster, install. It just never ends. My 2011 launch target will be more like 2014. Not saying it isn't worth it, but if you are going to do it, do it right. One time. Do not halfass it.

My buddy is looking at a 84 SN for me tomorrow in CT, its 1 of 4 that where purchased by Cypers Gardens in 84 from correct craft. It is white with metal flake red paint. Hope it turns out good . looks like a real sharp rig.
