Looks like Clarion has a new Marine model... the CMD4. Is this what CC is using?

Anyone heard anything about it?

I sure would love to get that installed from the factory on my new boat.

These are probably stupid questions... but whats the advantage, and do you need the 6-Disk CD Changer to play a CD?

Nonetheless, looks awesome!

The advantage is 3 sets of rca's.

The face on that one flips down and you can put the CD in. So, no you don't need the changer to play a CD. It would be a nice upgrade!

it plays MP3's also. Is this what CC is using on the 05's?

I believe the unit plays mp3s but the crutchfield website says otherwise...

Waterproof remote with display mmmmmmmm, that alone is makes it almost worth it in my book, although the xmd3 also had that. Not sure if 1.8v pre is any better then before.

Here are the specs from Crutchfields website:

I am looking at replacing my XMD1 with the CMD4 right now. Is it the same size as the XMD1? I really want the sirius radio plug in and also plugging in the i pod would be really nice. What does the C-Net ready stand for?

scubasteve,

You might have already seen this, but if you can live without Sirius, this has worked very well for a number of PlanetNautique members, including me. Check this thread out.

My cd player isn't working anymore, so it's time replace it anyways. I did see that little project and I would do that if my cd player worked. I do want the sirius radio really bad though, sounds so much cleaner through the unit. Curious though if I were to buy the CMD4 and hook up my I pod directly to the unit, would I be able to switch songs and that good stuff through the unit or would I have to play around with the i pod as well?

I was going to upgrade to the CMD-4, but have since found out that it does NOT play MP3's. Several companies confirmed this. what the heck is up with Clarion? Their website siad it played MP3's (a while ago), but there's no mention of it now. What kind of upgrade would this be... from a XMD-3?

Has any one figured out if the size of the CMD-4 is interchangeable with XMD1-3?

I replaced my XMD1 w/ the CMD4 about a month ago...its the only way to go. The XMD1 is a little wider than the CMD4 so you have to make a plate to cover up the gap on the sides of the stereo. The rotary knob and aux inputs for the IPOD are great. I have some pics at home, I try to post them tonight.

For only $200 thats really pretty cheap in my mind for a new deck with aux in. Plus i will most likely get like $50.00 on ebay for the old XMD-1

Anyone know an even cheaper price? How difficult is it to change the two?

thanks

Here's a few pics of the instal...the CMD4 has the same wiring harness, so its pretty much just plug and play.

Giddyup, have you figured out what you are going to use to cover up the screws and mounting plate?
In the picture at the beginning of this thread, it looks as though there are black end caps. That would work pretty sweet!

Here are a couple of pics of the finished install. I actually used an old battery box for the black plastic trim ring...I just traced the footprint of the XMD1 and cut it out. The black rubber ends of the CMD4 do not cover the holes left by the XMD1. I hope thats not too confusing.

No it's no as wide. I still purchased it any way and had had to custom make a new mounting bracket. It was quite easy. I took the old head unit water seal and traced it around a thin piece of wood, stained it, and it works great.
