I'm looking for a wakeboard instructional DVD for the kids and I to watch so we can learn some new moves. I'm looking for something that starts at the basics and works up to intermediate.

What are your favorites and why?

I'm also a beginer/intermiediate rider and I've seen two videos:

1) Waketrix: Good DVD for teaching fundamentals of each move, giving examples and showing how tricks build upon one another. Good narration during trick performance and discussion of proper body posture. I recommend and give it a four of five stars.

2) Higher Education: Good DVD for different reasons. This video covers equipment, terminology, good things to know about the sport and boat driving much better than Waketrix. However, the actual discussion of how to perform each trick isn't as solid. The riders discussing the tricks do lend insight and cover common mistakes but it's not quite on par with Waketrix. Three of five stars.

So in comparing these two videos I would get Waketrix if your already familiar with the sport, understand the basics of equipment, boat driving techniques and just want solid teaching on how to perform different moves. If your looking for a more of a well rounded video that covers more than tricks I would go with Higher Education.

Hope that helps.

Detention Vol. 1 & 2

Anyone used "The Book" yet? I think that looks like a good set...

TylerO -- Thanks for the advice. I picked up a copy and was very impressed.

Luke, I will check out the Detention Vol's. I bet I can find a few on ebay.

The book is great. I've watch 3 disks so far. Get it, well worth the 90 bucks for the 5 disk set.

The Book is amazing. Just started watching it and I'm highly impressed with it. That box set is really the only instructional DVDs you'd ever need. Covers everything in great detail, shows you some drills to improve your skills, breaks everything down for you nicely, even shows you how to practice on the tramopoline for inverts and spins....very nice. And its like 8 hours or so of footage? Well worth it.

phantom268 -- Great note. I had not picked up the book yet and was waiting for a good reason. Your comment about showing drills that can help improve has pushed me over the edge.

Thanks!

The book is the best hands down. Higher Education is a joke compared to the book. I didn't learn anything from higher education where the book has been great. Highly recommended.

I third, or fourth The Book. Kyle and the boys down at TWC straight up know their stuff!

Just bought the book, seems to be the call. I also have Detention 1-2 and Higher Education. Higher Education seemed to be good but it just progresses way too quickly with very little detail so it's near impossible to garner enough information to learn any tricks. Detention is a great video, it's almost worth it just for the entertainment value. I use Detention to play on most of my houseboat trips to get people interested in wakeboarding while not boring those that know enough to jump wake to wake. Like Higher Ed. it also progresses too quickly to learn anything beyond the very basics.

My other favorite is Running on Empty. It's not an instructional but it shows some beautiful footage of some of the best riders performing some great tricks, very inspirational.
