This is probably directed at SGY because he lives in CO. How many lakes and private sites are around? I only know of Laku Landing.
Ski, saw your posting on MBO first and responded there first. There are a couple of guys over there that will probably respond that know more than I. But here goes.
I'm constantly surprised as to how many private ski lakes surround the Denver area. By last count, there are at least 35 private lakes with full ski club memberships. There are at least that many more that are privately owned and operated without ski clubs. Here are the ones I can think of right now:
a. Cottonwood: Up in Brighton right off highway 85. The folks there are hard core skiers and jumpers. I know a guy who was very generous and let me ski there once behind his RLXI. The membership there is full and fairly stable.
b. Lighthouse Cove: Up east of Longmont. This is private community and you need to own a lot on the lake to belong.
c. Pelican Shores: Also just east of Longmont. Same as Lighthouse Cove.
d. Private lake--can't remember the name--also east of Longmont. Last time I checked, there was a membership available. But, you have to buy a share of the property--very pricey.
e. Bergland (sp?) West side of Denver metro. This is run by Tommy's Slalom shop. A guy over on the MBO site took me skiing there. Very nice and similar to Cottonwood. The folks there are great and great skiers. Full membership. To get on the list, you need to buy a new Bu from Tommy. The thought has crossed my mind from time to time.
f. Soda Lake. This is the rent-a-ride lake. It's run by a guy named Chuck Blood. Costs $20 bucks for 10 minutes or six passes.
g. Fry's Pit. Private lake on the northeast side--just off Highway 76. Never skied there but have heard nice things about it. May have memberships available.
h. Left Hand Ditch lake--up in Boulder. Awesome venue. Has some great skiers and footers. Full membership.
i. Not sure of the name--but another private lake up in Boulder. Close by to the Left Hand Ditch lake. Not sure about the membership roster.
J. Boulder Res. Very nice semi private lake. Even has a course from time to time. Memberships are just under $1,000.
Those are all I can think of right now. Tomorrow when I go to work, I think I have a list somewhere. If I can find it, I'll forward it to you. Are you planning to come to Denver for a visit or permanently? If just for a visit, shoot me an email. I'm fairly sure I can get you on somewhere to ski a couple of sets.

SGY,
Thanks for the info. I am just doing a little research for various reasons so I am not sure that I will move there. I do like to visit there though. Very neat place!
No sweat SN. Colorado is a great place, no question. No snakes or gators to worry about and you can ski 8 months a year, easy.
If you have any pull with CC, tell them that there are lots of private lakes out here--which means lots of dollars for folks to buy boats. There is no reason a properly run CC dealership can't make it out here. MC and Bu sell lots of boats out here every year. I'm getting tired of not having a home to take my expensive toy for work.
Have a great new year.

I know of a few private lakes West of the divide.
•Rocky Mountain Water Ski Club in Dotsero. This is a private man made lake with a ski course, club house, hot tub. Membership includes use of facilities and 2 ski boats. (Can be seen from I-70)
•Ski Club just west of Rifle is a private lake with ski course. Last year membership was full. (Can be seen from I-70)
•Lake Mirage in Fruita (Just West of Grand Junction) I think this is also private. Has home sites on north side. Lake is a ski course type lake. (Can be seen from I-70)
On the east slope there are a few I had looked into but memberships were full.
•Rock Ridge Ski Club near Wellington (North of Fort Collins). Here’s the web site. http://coloradopros.com/water_ski.htm
•There are two other private lakes just west of Wellington. One is North Poudre Reservoir #3. I have visited friends at this lake. Membership is full with a waiting list. There is one other Poudre Reservoir in the area but do not know the name.
There are a number of State Parks with lakes. Stage Coach Reservoir (Near Steamboat Springs) has a ski course set up on it. Green Mountain Reservoir (maintained by the USFS) is the closest ski lake near my location. A local Ski club maintains a ski course there.
