View Full Version : Pinstripe Tape
Anyone have a source other than the dealer for this stuff? I plan on doing a thorough wax job this winter and replacing the tape at the same time.
BTW- It is a '97 ski.

A decent autobody paint store has every color under the sun.

Does anyone know the reason for using the tape? I know that most other manufacturers have gone away from it. At least for the lines between hull colors.

They use the tape to change the way the boat looks. For example, you can use the same two colors and switch the tape on it giving you an extra 10 or so different color options. If you look at an MB Sport boat where they have a line in the boat that looks like a tapeline but molded in the gelcoat, it would be a pain to repair it if you had any fiberglass damage. The only two boats without it from Correct Craft are the 226 and the 211
The word from my dealer is Correct Craft cannot do "fine line gelcoating." He stated the humidity at the factory makes it too difficult to do. Funny, I thought the 226 was made in the same factory as the rest of the boats.
He said they can take the tape off some boats and there is not any bleeding, unfortunately that does not happen often.
When my new one shows up, I'm praying the tape can come off without any bleeding.
Hate the tape!

I took a factory tour a few years back and noticed all the tape work they do at the final prep area. I was a little dissappointed to see some of the lines under the tape.
I wasn't sure if they do that still or not. I can believe its difficult to get stable conditions in the factory being its all open air. Besides that it was very interresting to through the process, I learned a lot.
The tape is my number one gripe.

They spray the gelcoat in an enclosed area. But you are right, the rest of the factory is open
