View Full Version : Spark Plug wires
Are automotive and marine spark plug wires the same? Anyone found a set of automotive wires that fit the gt-40? I replaced the cap and rotor with marine parts but I am not sure if the wires need to me marine also.

The wires should be universial between car/marine. I have Accel 8.8 wires on mine, and no explosions so far.

I've always used genuine PCM wires on mine. Not sure if it is really necessary, but after having seen an explosion on a friend's boat, I'm not taking any chances. You can get PCM wires HERE (http://www.whitelake.com/catalog/electrical_parts_208201_products.htm), and probably at Discount Inboard Marine too. Prices are reasonable.

I would also stick to PCM parts unless you know for sure that wouldn't matter. Better safe than sorry. Besides, getting mega cool huge wires aren't going to realistically be any better than original replacements.

I bought a universal kit from Summit a couple of years ago. I had to size and terminate the wires myself, but I also got to route them exactly the way I wanted to. I've had no problems. $40 and about 3 hours.
