I'm also a Nautique owner in the Houston/Galveston area. I ski and board primarily on Clear Creek in my 1982 Ski Nautique 2001. I'm currently down with some maintenance problems, but we usually hit it weekly. Where do you ski at?

Talk to you later.

I've been riding on the creek since about 1999. We actually live on the creek also. Just west of I-45, we live down the first canal. When we ski and wakeboard, we primarily stay between I-45 and the Hwy 3 boat ramp in Walter Hall park. My boat is off white with a large maroon/red stripe on the side. It's about as old school as you can get and still be a 2001 Nautique, but I like it like that. I wish I had a tower, but we just use a 6' pole. If you are up in the creek a lot, I'm sure we've passed each other and just didn't realize it. You may also see me on the creek on an old school jet ski (the stand-up kind). I recently got two red 1985 jet ski 550s. They are pretty fun to ride and I get a lot of stares from people on the creek. My Nautique is still my first love, but the jet skis are fun too.

Never been to Cedar Bayou, but we used to ski a lot on Dickinson Bayou until we moved onto Clear Creek. I really don't use my trailer at all unless I need to pull my boat out for a huge repair or for a large storm.

What kind of Nautique do you have? What kind of tricks are you pulling off? We are just into rotations and inverts right now, but we're not landing anything huge.

i have an 88 2001 there are some pics of it in my gallery. but we just had a baby so i havent been spending that much time on the creek. i guess you live in ccvillage? the malibu is a white, black and tan wakesetter. black tower. i ride with some good riders and some not so good. i used to try crazy big ****. but i broke my leg jumping switch. then sepperated some ribs.doin some dumb stuff. then decided its not worth all that. so now i just ride for fun. i enjoy hanging with the wakeboard [****]crowd. well have to hook up and guzzle some coldies. you goin to waketoberfest on lake austin?

I can definitely understand where you're coming from. We used to try some pretty crazy moves that were way beyond our level and I've taken some pretty bad falls. My buds and I had to call this summer "Back to the Basics" so we've been focussing on getting all of our fundamentals down better before we start trying too many more wild moves. Watching the X-Games is hazardous to my health. I think I cracked a rib this year, and my knees are always a little tweeked. I'm nursing a jet ski injury on my foot right now, but I hope to get at least another session or two before the end of the season.
I hadn't heard of Waketoberfest, and unfortunately, I don't think we will have any chances in October to get out of town. I'm sure it will be pretty wild. Do you ever hear of any events rolling through he Houston area?
You are right, I do live in ccvillage. Next time you are out on the creek, you should swing by and say hey. You'll know the house because the boat will either be up on the lift or the lift will be empty and we're on the water.
Hopefully we can get the boat running again this weekend. I've got to replace my distributor cap and rotor and then adjust the timing. It has been a long saga to diagnose my problem, so I'm just hoping to be done for a little while.

first thing, have you converted to electronic ign, yet?if you havent save yourself the trouble and do it first it will save you all kinds of headaches. points suck. i just changed my cap, rotor, thermastat, fuel filter and impellar yesterday. there are a few contests @lago sante fe. not a big party scene. last weekend there was a deal called"bash on the trinity" didnt get to go.

I actually have already converted to elec. ignition, because you're right, points do suck. I've had good luck getting technical advice from Vince at Discount Inboard Marine, which is where I've been buying all of my parts. If you havn't tried them before, I highly recommend them. Vince is so good at boat repair and diagnosis that I call him a boat Yoda. I've been able to do all of the repairs on my boat for the last 4 years with his advice and I've never had to take it to a shop to get worked on. I know that he has saved me a huge chunk of change over the years.
Me and one of my buds did get to make it down to Lago Santa Fe this year for the slalom/jump/trick tournament and we enjoyed it (because we actually still like to slalom ski). I know most true wakeboarders don't slalom ski, but it's too much fun for us to stop. I'm probably blowing my cover now, but hopefully you can keep it on the DL.

yeah i just got those parts from skidim. vince seems to know his stuff. i was gonna go out on the creek today. but thanks to all the rain. i didnt get to. lot of crap floating down the creek. hows ccv? hey you need to post some pics of the ride. do you weight down the boat? do you run a fly high. or is it a full on slalom boat? cause the slalom wake dont look so good on a 2001

The creek seems to be almost back to normal height (maybe about a foot high right now). It rose about a total of 4 feet in our yard, so I had to cut my boat loose and cut the power to my bulkhead outlet. Normal deal for me lately, since it has been flooding a lot this year. A couple of my fellas are coming over this morning to help me get the boat running. If we are successful, we'll probably go out and catch a little action even if there is a lot of crap in the water. It's been too long since I got a pull, so I'm pretty desperate. If you do end up getting out, swing on by and say hey.
Sorry I don't have any pictures up, I'm not totally sure how to do it on this website. I actually wasn't able to find your pictures that you mentioned you had up. Have you got any tips. I am in the market for a digital camera, since we have our first baby on the way, so soon I'll be hooked up. I run with a 6 ft Flitepipe as my pole. A tower would be great, but I just haven't taken the plunge for that purchase yet.
It's funny you mentioned weighting down my boat, because I just recently got a 540 lb sac, but I haven't been able to use it yet, since I've been down for mechanical problems. In the past, I've tried to add weight the old fashioned way: get the biggest buds I can find and put them in the back of the boat. The slalom wake on the 2001 isn't fantastic, but is all I have, so I kinda got used to it.

to see my gallery just go to profile then click on my gallery. and i also have a pic in show your nautiques under old school 2001. i would like to get out today but my wife is on call so that means im on call for riley [daughter]. a tower would be sweet. i just sold a sweet digital camera. im running a fly high w/ fly high rack. im only running 2 375# sacks. 1 on each side of motor cover. with a full boat the wake is pretty sweet. better than a wakesetter w/ 1800# . youll need to post pics in your gallery . then link it to any other post you want it to be on. its prety jacked up for now, i think there trying to fix it. when is that baby due? ours just turned one.

I checked out your gallery. Those new graphics on the classic ride are pretty sweet. I've debated putting new graphics (but of the original design) on mine, but I keep spending the money on repairs instead. Speaking of repairs, we made a little progress yesterday and even got a chance to hit the water for a bit. The distributor, rotor and timing were off, so after they got fixed, she was running good enough to hit it. I also determined that I've got one cylinder that has lost about 25% of its compression. My off-season repair list is growing. The only good thing is that I was already going to pull my engine this winter to change out my oil pan since I had a hole in it that I have a patch on (go J-B Weld!). If I need to pull my head, at least I'll already be set up for it this winter. The other good news was that I finally got to try my fat sac. We only had 2 people in the boat and the fat sac in the back, but I thought the wake was really nice. The only problem yesterday was all of the junk in the water. It's the worst I've seen. It was probably not the smartest thing for me to be out there considering the amount of crap in the water, but I was desperate.
Our baby is due May 3 and we are really pumped. It is still too early to know what we are having, but when that time comes, we both want to know. I still plan on skiing and wakeboarding after the baby comes. I know my life will totally change, but some things have to stay the same, right. My wife is awesome and she knows that if I don't get some water time in then, I'm a wreck. And hopefully when our baby gets a little older, he/she can come out on the boat too. I was around the water all the time as a kid, so I'd like to pass that on.
When the web site gets the picture stuff squared away and when I get some worthy pics, I'll have to post them.
Later...Scott

Thanks for the invite. Unfortunately, we already have plans that weekend, but we'll have to try and hook up some other time. That's a great picture of your daughter. She's really cute in her bikini and hat. You better watch out for all the boys when she becomes a teenager!

There are many Nautiques at Lago Santa Fe, home of 2002 and 2003 Waterski Nationals and US Open. If you guys did not hear about it, then you missed great skiing, including a world record jump of 236 ft!

Plus there are many other Ski Clubs and communities that run nautiques. For example, Cypress Hill, Ski Texas (Resharon), Terra Mare, etc.

I will post some pics hopefully sunday after I get it. If not sometime next week.

The 85 is in decent shape The hull is I would say on a scale of 1 to 10. Its probably a 7.5 . The interior needs new carpet. I will be replacing that before I try to sell it. I had a machine shope build me an engine two summers ago. I am pretty sure I have around 60 to 70 hrs on new motor. I will have to check the hours meter. With the new Engine I replaced the fuel pump, Starter, Gas/water seperator, Exhaust risers and manifolds. New exhaust hoses and all new hoses on engine. Oh yea new water pump too. I need to rebuild the carb. It runs strong. But sometimes its hard to start if its been running awhile and I turn it off. I think the carb is flooding out. But a rebuild should fix that. The interior is ok. I dont have a back seat anymore. Just the front. It will come with a skylon with skylong board racks. Oh yea. it has galvanized single axle shorelander trailer that I purchased in 2000. So its in almost perfect condition. I have always flushed the motor after using it. And washed the boat after running it too. I really dont know what to ask for it. I was thinking maybe $8,500 what do you think? It will definetly make someone a great wakeboard boat.

I am the 2nd owner of the boat.
http://www.wakeworld.com/cgi-bin/Discus4/board-profile.pl?action=view_profile&profile=nooner-users

there is a pic of the boat here. This pick is about a year and a half to 2yrs old I think but you get the idea on the colors. Its pretty solid. I really dont know what to ask for it. I bought it about 4 years ago. for 8k then I put a new trailer, new interior but that went to **** fast, and all the stuff I mentioned above. So I mean maybe you guys to help me to see what I should ask for it?

I think your price sounds fairly reasonable. I bought my '82 sn about 4 years ago, and it was about that same price (it had a rebuilt engine much like yours), but it didn't have some of the other features/upgrades you mentioned. I'm not sure of anyone off hand who wants to buy it, but I would feel pretty confident that you could find a buyer here in the Clear Lake area for her.

I have a '95 Ski Nautique Signature Edition, just got it last June. Been skiing almost every weekend since, got to love the Houston winters! I ski at Banana Bend Ski Lake, just off the San Jacinto River. I'm there as much as I can time, let me know if you want to ski sometime!

The small tournament during the July 4th weekend at Lago Santa Fe was FUN! Not quite as exciting as the US Nationals and the US Open during the past two years, but I guess these guys must wanted to take it easy for awhile. How about the World Record Jump (236? ft) last year! Andy Mapple and Company are always inspiring to watch. Andy is retiring as we all know by now.

Jed,

Tell me more about the banana bend ski lake, All I know about is the banana bend beach on the jacinto river. I ran once on the river, but decoded to stay away from there.

Also gotta love the houston season. I boat more from labor day to memorial day than the vice versa.

Ag4ever,
there is a private ski lake really close to Banana Bend park. You can not access it from the River. Its for members only and has a waiting list. I dont know if this is the same ski lake or not that Jed uses, but I did go see a wakeboard competition there once a few years back. If you are driving a car to Banana Bend park. ~ 1 mile before the park on the right is where the lake is. It is fenced off.
