I am completely new to boating. A friend of a friend is selling me a 1987 Correct Craft Dominique. The price I can not pass up but it does not have a trailer. The boat is on Long Island and I am in the Boston area. I have been looking for a trailer to buy here, drive to NY to pick the boat up with. My nightmare would be to buy the trailer, get to NY and not have it fit. This is the info I have can someone let me know if it will fit.
The boat: 19' Correct Craft Dominique, Inboard
The trailer: 1997 Calkins Model#CRBX1618-3000, GVWR 3746, Galvenized, single axle, bunk with keel rolls. The trailer currently holds an 18' Boston Whaler. It appears that everything on the trailer is adjustable, bunks, axle, tongue, winch, etc. Trailer was meant for a 17-19' boat.
Any opinions?

Sounds like an interesting boat. If you get a chance, please post some pictures.

The first thing I thought of while reading your post is that the trailer you mention is not designed for an inboard. Be sure that the trailer leaves room for the drive shaft and center tracking fins (if the Dominique has them). Also, be sure that the trailer will keep the boat high enough so that the prop won't hit the ground or the trailer. Obviously you can't raise the shaft/prop on an inboard like you can raise the outboard motor on a Boston Whaler.

Also, I would be careful about the 3000-pound limit on that trailer. A general rule of thumb is to leave a 1/3 margin of error when it comes to weight and trailering. I don't know how much that boat weighs, but it probably is heavier than you think, especially if you're going to be pulling it full of fuel and gear. You don't want this to happen to you...

Jeff hit it on the head, make sure the trailer your looking at was made for an inboard. At the very least measure both before you try to load the boat onto the trailer then measure again as its coming up the ramp.

I'd suggest a call to Owen at BoatMate...he can build you one to fit the boat exactly.

Jeff - What happened to the Moomba in the photos? It looks like a Boatmate trailer. Bearings freeze?

The axle came disconnected from the right side. The complete story (and a couple more pictures) can be found HERE (http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/3183/80670.html?1062826097).
