Awesome labor day week end!!
There are over 35 cruisers hooked up on that floatilla and only one little ol' Nautique. There must have been 150 boats in the cove
I'd rather have a Nautique and a hammock than a 45' Fountain - just kidding - IT'S ALL GOOD!!!

Haha -- I know what you mean, for years, when we went out there on weekends, we were the only air nautique I saw on the entire lake. I can count on one hand the total number I have seen in the last 5 years. Of course these days, with a new little one, we are still down there alot, just on weeknights and late Sunday's. If you got the money thats great..but the thing I've never understood is buying a 40 ft, 300K yacht and then just tying up or running up and down a 5 mile stretch of lake all day. Also, not bashing...just seems like those boats would be more fun offshore somewhere.

Melloncamp has a Nautique on Monroe and a woody Criss Craft. He keeps his Nauti just north of the causeway.

Really?? Mark told me, if I remember correctly, that shortly after we bought our boat that one of Mellencamp's reps came in wanting to buy one that very day, but he didn't have one in stock and after a couple of phone calls the deal didn't work out......I guess in the years since then they closed the deal.

By the way, we hit racoon tonight and it was pretty darn nice. also, saw a great looking 1997 or 1998, most likely, air nautique with and aftermarket tower....beautiful red and blue color combo.
There were about 8 cars in the lot...nice..

Hey, I've been a tique owner for only a couple of months now. Nice to see there are other SN boaters out there in Indy. Although Ive had the boat break down already, I dont regret the purchase one bit. I am looking forward to the start of nicer weather in this g-d forsaken state. I had a really annoying but relatively minor thing happen as well. MY FREAKIN' Trailer crank was stolen. RIght off the trailer, I couldnt even believe it. I keep the boat in a public RV, limo, boat etc covered parking barn type place and today when I picked it up, no crank. Just ridiculous. Oh well, no biggy, I guess I'll get a new one. Hope to see you other tiques out on the water soon.

Wow..people are crazy...Seems they would have taken about 100 other things off your boat and/or trailer before the crank.
The seasons in Indiana definitely aren't the greatest. Its mostly what you make of it and that means being ready to go no matter what, if the weather is even half way reasonable. Over the last 6 years, I average being on the water the 1st week of April and off by the 2nd week of November...and even then I'd probably go later if I could get a third and a driver.
Congratulations on the new ride, look forward to seeing you out there...just stay out of my line and don't screw around on the ramp! ...haha..just kidding

I heard Indiana will finally start recognizing daylight savings time. Nice to see you took the voting rights away from the cows (our cows still vote in Ohio). As the far western state in the eastern time zone, you will have some nice long days to ski in summer. I bet you will be able to legally ski at 10 p.m. Enjoy it.

of course....with the weather as of late...it might be June before we get a decent weekend. My family was on the lake each weekend in April last year....this year we haven't been out yet....and I had snow on the boat two weekends ago.....yuk...

I'm another indiana Nautique owner...actually a '87 Dominique, just ready to turn 293 hours this last weekend. We keep the boat at Winona Lake...near Warsaw, IN...lots of late 1980's 2001s and a few newer Nautiques on the lake...nice to hear that dual exhaust rumble...like an old friend.

It's a great lake...mostly year round owners with little weekend traffic...seems the pubilc access channel has some major stumps submerged...it's known as a great fishing lake...only 560 acres, so you have to dodge the fisherman for the early morning glass..they love it when we put on the sklon and teach the kids to wakeboard :???: The Boat House is prety good....great view...next time check out Mosaique...nice place for dinner.

Monroe is too busy and no fingers, only the main channel. Mornings during the week are ok. Went couple of years there, but now on Morse lake since it is only 25 minutes away.

AirNautique211,
I live here in Indy. I just moved from CT. Just bought my own first boat. 1991 SN (rare black, yellow and white one) My family had a mastercraft back home. Ive always liked the older nauti's though. Just picked it up a day or two ago. I have never been on Indy lakes before. Can you give me some advice on some good lakes....maybe even meet up with you sometime somewhere...........

Nice to see some fellow Hoosiers hitting on some lakes I used to ski. I spent the first 22 years of my life in IN. Moved all the way to IL now. I grew up in Huntingon - Salamonie (sp?) reservoir was great - no homes, hardly any traffic - flood control though - a lot of rain = lots of floating debris. Huntington Reservoir was ok, but pretty small. I also lived in Indy for a few years and went on Moorse. Decent lake, quite a bit of traffic though. I also attended Purdue and went on Freeman too. Never hit Shaffer though, but there is more than corn in Indiana (at Indiana Beach off beautiful......)
I think I am going to make it back to IN to Monroe this year in July. I have never been, but a friend works for GM and lives near the lake. Is it worth going or should we go to TN or KY and hit one of those lakes?

your options for around Indy are quite a lot, there are two resevior's that during the week aren't bad but the week-ends suck. There's monroe to the south about 1-1.5hrs down 37, there's raccon lake to the west towards danville. There's about half dozen to a dozen lakes within 2 hr's drive

Welcome to Indy Cowboyup! I boat on Morse Reservoir in Noblesville (just north of Indy) quite a bit. I'd be glad to show you around the lake sometime if it ever stops raining. Depending on where you live Morse or Geist are probably your closest lakes. But they do get very busy on the weekends. There are other lakes an hour or so away that I've heard are nicer. Maybe a few of us could meet up on Morse sometime, it'd be cool to meet everyone in person.

FYI.... There are also several lakes in NE Indiana.. Lake Wawasee, Lake James (3 basins, 5 lake chain), Hamilton Lake, Clear Lake, Crooked Lake.. all skiable, and considered small in comparison to Norris, Dale Hollow, Cumberland of course, but smallest of those is ~800 acres.. Wawasee is 3000. These are all NE of Huntingtion (mentioned above) and are about an hour away.

How about Lake Freeman and Shafer - Monticello, IN, North west near Lafayette? Freeman is 15 miles long via the channel, 12 miles of which are skiable. I have been to every major lake in Indiana and like Freeman the best - of course I grew up there, so that is a purely biased account. It is a great lake - you can always find good water somewhere. Try it out sometime and look me up - we're on the south end directly across from the marina and sailing club.

Hey Jeffsv211, learned to ski on James, in the 70s, over at Red Sands Beach. Sure wish I could afford property there now. What a beautiful lake.

Yes.. James and Clear lake are both outrageous for this area... Last I heard, lakefront was about 6500+ per foot of lakefront on those 2 lakes. I like James too, except it is too busy and the boats that are showing up are to big for that lake... not much good for watersports, but a great sand bar to visit! I grew up on Clear Lake in the far NE corner (10 min from Ohio, 15 min from MI). Totally sand bottom, spring fed lake...

I grew up in Angola, class of 76 and still have a place on James. We foot at dawn every weekend, usually on Snow Lake, just out of the channel.
Stop by and take a run with us sometime!

yeah my buddy's got a place on Snow Lake (Chain of Lake James) & yeah it is absolutely crazy there on the weekends, we basically board during the week when we wanna drive the hr & 15 mins to get there after work, & then maybe a little bit on fridays right when we get up there, but on saturday & sundays we basically sit on shore, or maybe go out tubing for abit, since the water is already completely trashed from all the huge boats & just sheer number of boats....
