Luke and I redesigned this site back in January, using a couple of good (and free) utilities. I personally tweaked quite a bit of the code to make things look like we wanted them to.

The main site is run on a platform called PostNuke. PostNuke is a content management system, and can be downloaded by clicking on the image below.

The forums run on a system called PNPHPBB (PostNuke PHP Bulletin Board). PNPHPBB is a mod that we added to PostNuke, so the forums are just a piece of the main site. It can also be downloaded for free. Click below for information on PNPHPBB.

The sites turn out pretty nice, but they are time consuming to set up. It is fun though. You need to know (or be willing to learn) a little bit about how databases like MySQL and PostNuke/PHPBB interact. There are instructions and support forums for these systems, and I have solved TONS of issues that have popped up here just by searching these support forums. There is more work involved in keeping these sites up and running than most people realize. There are security updates, new features to be added, and other problems that come up. All in all, it is pretty rewarding though, once people really start using the site.

ya i realize how much work it takes trust me lol i'm working on one now and its very time consuming. i think i am going to use a forum maker called proboards (www.proboards.com) to make my forums. thank you for the links etc. but if it involves a lot of work, i probably wont have time. this that i am using comes with everything except the rooms....you just have to bring those in yourself. i'll post a link here when i get done with the website.

thanks anyway

allen

p.s. i am enjoying this site very much...just wish there were more people around who didnt have a better boat than me lol...all these super airs...i only dream of having one
