After looking for a Nautique for almost a year now, I am finally an official Correct Craft owner. My 14-year old son and I picked it up from White Lake Marina in Graham, NC this past Thursday, took it to our lake house about an hour and a half away, and spent the weekend out with family wake and knee boarding. Had a blast.

As is par for the course with me, there were a few bumps in the road. While we were out on the water Friday evening I noticed the v-drive light come on a flicker a bit while we were at cruising speed and it eventually went off. I figured the oil was a tad bit low and once it heated up it made the light go out. So Saturday morning I checked the fluid and it was a bit low so added straight weight oil and took it back out for a quick test. Sure enough the light went off once over 1,000 rpms. Went back to the boat house, opened up the engine hatch, and there was water splashing everywhere in the compartment. I looked down in the bay and it appeared that the water pump was leaking. After checking closer, the heater supply hose appeared to have been re-installed from winterization incorrectly and was resting on one of the engine pulleys. It had worn holes in the hose. So off in to town for some 5/8th heater hose, a coupler, and clamps. 10 minutes later it was fixed and we were back on the water for the rest of the weekend.

Coming from an I/O it definitely takes some getting used to, especially in reverse. But I love how it drives, handles, and the wake is top-notch. There are a couple of small projects to work on, specifically replacing the ballast pumps. But I guess that is part of the fun of having a boat.

Anyway, attached are a couple of not-so-great pics. I didn't have the patience on the first weekend to get any good ones, but I guess these will do.

Reverse???? ......... You've got reverse?

Tell me about it. I've been piloting I/O and O boats in dad's lap since age 6 and unassisted since about 10. At 40, I've gotton pretty darn good at gettin' her done no matter the difficulty....wind, tight spots, passing shrimp boats, ding dong tourists, etc.

The reverse on this single engine inboard makes me look like a newby.

Yea, calling "reverse" in a single engine inboard is a bit of a stretch. More like "you pull the throttle backwards and the prop changes direction". I've had some challenges getting the boat pulled into my boat house.

As a whole bunch of other threads say, you'll get used to it. Eventually you'll be able to maneuver it way more skillfully than an I/O in any direction.

Also, you realize that now that you have an inboard you can't stand up while you drive anymore- that move is for I/O drivers only!

Nice boat. In my opinion the performance of that hull is still the best they ever made. I have ridden all the new ones including a 230 and still prefer that boat. You will love it..............

Now that you mention it..........I've got about 35 hours in this boat already and I've never once stood up while driving. In the other boats, I never sit.

Go figure.

Congrats Red. Great looking boat. Unfortunately, once you go inboard, you can never go back (but who'd want to?)

Theres a few VERY true statements in this thread but non ring more true than this one.

I've had this misfortune of working at a ski school back in '01 and driving nothing but inboards to ....... school moves to a lake too far for me to travel and commit time to. to .... going to a friends cottage and driving his IO.

Umm ..... wow, I cant put to words how disappointing the handling is in an IO. Dont even get me started on the pull, throttle response, holding speed, bow rise, tracking, etc etc etc. Most of you already KNOW how long this list will get if I try to git er all in. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

Congrats on your new ride.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I posted another thread about re-working the ballast. If you have a chance, check it out and let me know what you think.
